new 400+ whp 04 STI
Here is 04 sti, 20 k miles, now using Cobb AP tunned by Paul **** at EIPracing, San Jose, CA, two maps: low and high boost, 91 octane with 50% methanol/50% water (SMC Enterprises) injection.
www.eipracing.com
low boost map: reliable and consistent 390s whp/340s wtq
higher boost map: reliable and consistent 400+ whp/350-60 wtq.
True power from a Mustang AWD 500 SE dyno thought to be one of the lowest reading dynos in the bay; stock 04 STIs average 210 whp on this dyno.
APS SR55 turbo and all the supporting mods to make this car strong and reliable.
Drives smooth and strong with regular street use and abuse, and no problems running, idling, or engine codes.
See pictures below. You might recognize the car from one of it previous installments. Oh yeah, the chargespeed front bumper and side skirts are up for grabs at great deals, as well as an APS cold air intake. If you are interested in any parts, let me know.

Hey Ed,
I've heard good things about you, Paul **** and Andy Chan both recently told me that you are a good Cobb tuner.
I know what you mean. If you compare the two dyno sheets, the most recent one has more lag and less torque, as well as lower off peak values, than the previous pulls on 3-4.
I used to use ecutek reflash. I think that something is up with the Cobb AP reflash now that I switched. My power actually dropped to 340 whp during the course of the week last week. Paul found a problem and literally changed 1-2 numbers somewhere in the maps and the car went back up to 400+. He said he would call Cobb because he hasn't seen an ECU change like that by itself and he wasn't sure how it could have happened. I was on the dyno with him the whole time and he showed me what I'm talking about, I just don't remember. But something is definitely up.
I'm going back to see him late this week to work on the issues you noted. In the mean time, the car is actually driving very smoothly and strong.
We want to see if the same change happens again as I drive around using the Cobb AP and changing maps on the fly. If it does, then he'll work harder to find the underlying cause. If not, then one problem is solved, and he'll fine tune the maps to get more usable power and torque.
Boost, is about 23 psi from an APS SR55 turbo.
I also did ask Paul for a conservative tune--one that would not stress the engine too much and that the engine would be reliable for "a long time." So I think that his maps are very good because repetitive pulls are very consistent, but that--per my request--the maps are not as aggressive as they could be.
Thanks for your input. Let me know any advice you want to share.

Hunter,
Cobb Protuner gives the tuner access to mostly the same maps and parameters as Ecutek. If Paul is having issues with something the ECU is doing, its most likely not Cobb's fault but rather a parameter that was not set appropriately in the tune. The Subaru ECU's can be very dynamic so there are many parameters that could have changed in a way Paul didn't expect. If you get more details on what specifically happened and what he saw, I could provide more detailed feedback. Either way, this is something you should definitely take care of and confirm that the car is running properly not only on the dyno but long term on the road as well.
Thanks

check the scaling on your injectors! when paul use to tune my car, he did not scale them properly and my car was very laggy, im talking full spool at 4000RPM on a stock turbo! the dyno numbers look good but the car drove like shiet. I took it over to GST and they immediately corrected the problem and also found that my car was knocking top end.
now im not saying this is paul's fault in your case, but for me he totally BS'ed me when I asked him why my car was spooling so late stating that it was normal. 4000RPM spool up on a VF39 is NOT NORMAL. I personally had a very bad experience with EIP's tuning capabilities but hopefully they treat your car a lot better than how they did mine.
