My new project. Many pictures. 2800 baud users beware.
So - it has been a while since I really posted anything up here on i-Club. A few things changed and then I had a really cool deal fall out of the sky at the right time. That kinda crap never happens to me, so it was nice to have it drop into my lap for a change.
I own a 1998 Impreza "L" sedan. It's tomato red and has a "rat rod" black fender right now. Just an econobox.
One of my buddies (Ds baruuuuu) has been driving it for a few months now 'cause he tried to make his WRX/RS hump a Jeep on an off-ramp. Little did he know the jeep had a chastity belt on, and the result was a smashed radiator and stuff. Anyway... we were at lunch the other day and he says, "Hey, Ditchhanger told me that there's a smashed '02 WRX Wagon for sale for pretty cheap. That's everything you need right there to do your swap." I thought it was pretty cool, but what really shocked me was that my fiance jumped all over it. Yay.
Fast forward 2 days - we bring the car home. Woohoo! I own a totally smashed car! Hahahahahha
Dirty, but that will be taken care of. I'm going to put many shiny parts on.
Thankfully the rain held off until we had pushed the car into the carport. We got the full wrath while we tried to unhook the trailer from the truck and then push it onto the (muddy) grass. Good times.
The plan right now is to swap the engine, transmission, drivetrain, and brakes into my "L" sedan. I am seriously considering swapping the dash in as well. I'd do the seats, but if I did that I'd need to find a way to get a matching rear seat and door cards. I figure if we're going to go through all that damn trouble it better match!
More than likely I'm going to run a FMIC on the car and black out the FMIC. Yeah, now that I've told everyone you'll know... lol... but the people that know what to look for would know it's there anywhere. I just want to keep the flat hood look.
Might even remove the (small) rear spoiler too.
Once I get all the mechanicals done I'll get the car re-tinted and get the body work done so that I can have it resprayed in the factory color. I still need to figure out what suspension and stuff I want to run. It'll be an autocross car, and provided that we get another track...a Superlap / track day car too.
We're hoping to get started on the project this week. I'll have to make sure I lob up regular progress reports for y'all. Once we get an idea of the major stuff we need I'll post up the parts I am willing to sell off of the '02 Wagon.
It won't be as fast as Fran's super nutbox crazy asylum car but it should be fun. Another GC with a newer WRX engine in it!

if possible. i'd like to buy the front bumper since you're not using it. it needs some paint so please don't make the price to much
if you don't play around to much while doing this you can totally strip the WRX down to the chassis including the gas tank (you'll need the sensor and harness there) and put everything back (provided you can find an area for it to fit into the RS) and get it running within a full 48 hours. I speak from experience with my car. of course you'll probably want to add another day to that or half a day since you have another car to strip down first but that shouldn't be to much of a problem . just don't cut anything from either car since you could probably sell things off of them both that you don't use.
good luck
Jon

As a wagon owner I am sad to see the 02 end up the way it did, but glad that it will continue on in your pursuit of happiness
Good luck with the swap and keep updating this thread with your progress!

(edit) I am a knuckle-dragging mouth breather. I posted a link to this thread...IN this thread. Hahahahhaha.
Link changed. It'll actually take you to the for sale thread now.
