wow man amazing job on the exterior, car looks wonderful

hey, to complete the look, you should go get some JDM tails, they are so much cleaner

now, have you had experience painting before this project? either way, how hard was it to do the painting?

Thank you all so much!!

I do like the JDM tails but I have always wanted to get the TYC 3 round lights, take em apart, and paint them body color and re-assemble them.
Im still kind of on the fence about it.

I used to paint model cars and stuff like that way back in the day, but other than this project the only experience I have had was I painted the old side skirts and old air foil with a crappy $23 siphon feed spray gun.
and
spraying the rear cowl on my suzuki sv650s.

Other than that stuff... none.

Basically here is a quick list of material i went through for this project:
HVLP spray gun set .........$150
1 quart of color matched base
1 gallon of clear
reducer for color
hardener for the clear......$150ish
2 quarts of primer
hardener
sand paper
mixing buckets.................$100ish
1 quart of fancy color
reducer for fancy color.....$200

basically if your looking to save money this isn’t the way to go.

Personally I would like to learn as much as possible and be able to say I did as much possible my self.

Its not all that tough but it is a steep learning curve.

Yes!!!!
I just ran my first auto cross event today!!!
it was great.
the alpha romao club was hosting it at Oakland university’s parking lot.
I hit the track with a grudge. I figured if there was any place to push the car as hard as I could, it would be here.
My best time was 43 seconds.
there was one wrx wagon there running 41's other than that the next fastest time was 45 seconds.
There were about 5 wrx'es and one sti (who only ran a 46).
They could have gotten faster toward the end of the day I only stayed for the first two sessions. I ran my laps in the first session and got burned to a crisp working one of the corners in the second session.

I am so ready to get a dedicated race car together!!

Thats a bit steep!
are they doing the prep work themselfs or are you going to do all that?
about two years ago I had a front bumper, headlights, and cornermarkers painted for 300. Then again I did all the prep on them before I handed them over.

Id say shop around a little more.
stay away from the big name places.

well one place, a local shop actually quoted me 380 with the bumper off the car and primed, but a friend recommended me to another person who would do everything off the car for 300, but im not sure

i got my spoiler painted pretty cheap form a local shop because the painter took it as a side job, ill try them again

its less impressive in person, but thank you!
It really helped to have a deadline in mind. I was hell bent to have it done for that auto cross event the 24th of last month.

It really helped me to stop nit picking the little stuff and just get some stuff done.

Next goal is going to be getting the interior done by the end of summer.

only down side is I have to finish some body work on the family van so we can sell it first to get my garage back!!

I am dead set to get that done by this weekend,
have the roll cage in by the 15th,
the rear door cards and allot of interior bits are almost ready for paint as it is so its going to go together rather quick from there.
The big step is getting that cage done, and getting on my uncle about finishing my seat covers.

ah well,
will keep all posted.

It is true that it is ricey, but he said that the interior was kind of beat up. I mean... you still have to be presentable right? Might as well make it nice, especially if you still have unused materials.
