Ej18 Brat

Ej18 Brat
Thought I would share the progress on my EJ18 swap into my BRAT
So here is what I have envisioned.
EJ18 BRAT w/EA81 4wd tranny w/indepenent high low range selector. so I can go into low range in 2wd and 4wd. EA82 power steering swap, Rear LSD, 4 inch lift w/5 lug swap and 27-28 inch tires.
According to the info I have found.
here are the weight/hp figures for various soobs.
07 STi 3192lbs, 300 hp, = 10.64 #/hp
07 WRX 3192lbs, 230 hp, =13.87 #/hp
02 WRX 3085lbs, 227 hp = 13.59 #/hp
00 OBS 2795lbs, 142 hp = 19.68 #/hp My daily driver
95 Imp L 2650lbs, 110 hp = 24.00 #/hp donor car
EJ BRAT 1800lbs, 110 hp = 16.36 #/hp.
EJ(T) BRAT 1800lbs, 150?hp = 12#/hp. (last stage)
I took the stock EJ flywheel off and placed the EA81 FW on the crankshaft. The **** at the rear of the crankshaft fit the FW perfectly. It was so snug that I had to use a bar to easy it off. The hole on the EA81 fw is too small for the EJ bolts and the EJ's bolt circle diameter is larger. The easiest way I found to adapt the flywheel was to get a bolt that fit through the pilot bearing and put it into a vice. Then I placed the EA FW onto the bolt and the EJ Fw on top of that. Took out a drill w/3/8 bit and some tapping oil and went at it. Holes are almost lined up with the crankshaft holes. I need to ream it out a bit to make it work.
The next step is to get the adapter plate for the EA tranny. Look over at the Ultimatesubaru.net for info re:EJ swaps into EA cars.
All of the mechanical parts have been aquired. I just need to put it all in and get the electrical to work.
more to come.

well I spent way too much for the XT6 front hubs and stuff so I have to skimp a little on the adapter plate. You can buy one on line for about 200 bucks, but I went to a local steel yard and picked up some 1/4 inch plate steel for about $30.00. The adapter needs to be 1/2 inch thick so I figure two 1/4 plates welded together should be ok. Anyway I have the bellhousing shape drawn out on cardboard and I am going to transfer it to the steel. Will take some pics of the work in progress.
But the 5 lug rear pieces are ready to go. the front parts just have to be mounted onto the EA82 crossmember.
This weekend I am doing a Clutch job on my OBS so I have to evict the BRAT onto the street. Overall things are going well. Once the clutch is changed on the OBS I can dedicate the garage to the BRAT and I will start pulling the engine and dropping the tranny and getting to the nitty gritty. Well.. mostly gritty.

I have some pictures.
First is the EJ engine w/the EA tranny test mounted together.
The second is a pic is from the starter hole showing the tranny input shaft seated correctly.
So I am going with a 5 inch lift now. Bought some 5 X 2 metal tubing that is 1/4 thick.
Here is a link to my photobucket w/the swap stuff.
