in my honest opinion, the TD04 is as laggy as I would go. The 2.0L needs AVCS and a twin scroll setup. I've been tempted several times to go this route, but can't bring my self to do anything but a 2.5L upgrade.
It's all a matter of opinion, and purpose.

VF34 is a small upgrade for a 2.0L let alone a 2.5L. If I had to do it over, I would go 18G on my 2003 WRX. If I was upgrading a newer WRX with the 2.5L, I would go with a 20G minimum.
I think you should listen to others and wait until you can afford a good upgrade.

I can afford any turbo I want, but I just don't want to spend that much on my car considering the money I've put in thus far. For what I want to do, the 34 is a perfect turbo. The 16 18 and 20g's are all mutts - parts put together by whomever selling it. Everyone can tell me all they want, but with my own decisions thus far I think my wrx is setup very nicely, and its going to kill on the track. I appreciate everyones feedback on what I "should" do, but its not going to change my mind.
To mcdrama: Would be good, but it says that its waste gate was over ported :/. I dont really wan't to deal with that or go to an external waste gate setup. I really appreciate you keeping this thread in mind though.

Can't get mad at people trying to save you money in the long run by avoiding the mistakes we've all made. I wish I had listened to all of the folks that said I should spend a couple extra bucks and get the 18G. To each his own..............

Im not mad, I am just stating that I have my mind set on a vf-34. For my application, it suits me well. Its all about response. Its still going to be another like 60 whp up from what I am running now. Thats a big upgrade if you ask me.

Hey Guys
Personnally the VF-30 that I had on my 2.0 was a huge upgrade over the td04 that came on the car stock. For a (street driven) car that was more than enough for the 2.0 in my opinion. I actually thought it was a little laggy if you wanted a little boost on the freeway in 5th gear. That turbo was also enough to max out a set of STI pinks on my stg 4 set up. I street drove this set up for over 5 years and was happy with it
I now have a 06 wrx wagon and am looking at getting pretty much the same size turbo but no larger than the 18g. This size of turbo is a blast to drive on the street, not to worried about drag racing or hi-speed freeway runs. It also does not take a whole bunch of supporting mods to compliment it properly on the 06. It is also one of the best bangs for the buck out there, hands down!
