Hey Nuts,
Here are the spacers that you might need to use the struts with your top hats!

or, do the washer mod. I have a box full of the proper size washers.
These are grade 8 steel washers and will not bend or break. I've put over 40,000 miles on my KYB AGX/USDM STi Pink spring setup with these washers on the rear struts of my 04 WRX. over a dozen auto-x events, back road drives, gravel, and a few jumps even.
No clunking, no nasty sounds, no alignment issues. This is truely a great setup.
PM me if you want the washers. I paid about $0.80 each for them at GLR fasteners in Santa Clara. They have a $20 minimum though so I had to buy a bunch.
i'll send 4 of them USPS for $5 or we can meet up if you're close to San Jose or San Mateo.

here is a post I made on Nasioc about the washer mod with pics on the method I used.
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...&postcount=128
The alternate method and is a better choice is to drill or dremel the center of your rear topmount out so it is able to seat flush on the top of the strut shaft and place 2 washers on top of the strut, then put the nut on with an impact gun.
The drilling of the topmount is ONLY FOR 04+ TOPMOUNTS. the topmount design changed between 03 and 04 which made the ID of the topmount smaller than 02-03 by a hair.
This second method is what Ed @ EQ Tuning uses as well as a few other people here on i-club. The reason for this method is that it does not compress the strut shaft as much. The topmount ends up being a shorter distance from the strut's spring perch which allows the spring to absorb more of the energy than the method I used/documented.
Both methods work, but if you are using more of a lowering spring(more that 15-20mm) you'll want to use the drilling method.
