Alright! Here is the plan.
Obviously there is a lot of interest on this, I'm getting calls and emails and everything. This is good...I'm happy!
So this is what I am going to do. On Monday (the 5th) I am going to have a "Subaru Open House" at my parents house. I'll be there from 10am-ish until whenever...giving people a chance to look at the car and take it for a VERY VERY limited test drive (it isn't registered right now)...like up and down the street, around the corner, yada.
Feel free to come by any time that day...but if at all possible please leave me a message here telling me what time you think you'll be around.
If someone wants to buy it that day, it'll be pretty much first come first serve...with one BIG caveat...the car is not smog legal. Like I said before it might pass smog (the sniffer test) but won't pass visually. So this is how I want this part to work...
-Buyer aquires stock intake and exhaust (buy them, borrow them...whatever)
-Seller (and buyer if they want to) install parts
-Seller gets car smogged
-Buyer assumes responsibility for paying registration (there are some late penalties, ~$300) signs pink slip, buyer takes car away.
I will NOT take the full $5K on Monday. I will however accept a "deposit" of $1K with the buyers full understanding that they must aquire the parts necessary to smog it within a week. The depost IS refundable...but I will keep the car here. The reason for the deposit is because there is such huge interest at this time and I want to make this as fair as possible. If you cannot get the smog stuff within a week, I will give you back the $1K and I'll contact the next person in line. If you can get the smog stuff here within a week...I'll smog it, get all the paperwork ready, you give me the rest of the $, and take the car home.
The address is 3187 Lucas Drive. Lafayette, CA 94549. My number is 925-788-0685.
I won't be able to post or talk today, I've got to go take care of a ton of shiz...but I WILL be reading this Sunday morning to answer any and all questions.
Thanks!
-Crawford

Well i would probably have a hard time coming up with that stuff, especially within a week. Is this the only way you can do this? I dont know anyone with a rs around here and even if i did find parts they would prob need to be shipped or something

Also the potential buyers risk buying parts and not getting the car. then we will be stuck with useless parts.
so the only thing preventing it getting registered is a smog? that shouldn't be a problem.

Well if you can't source the parts, the car can't be smogged, and therefore can't be registered. It's pretty simple.
It's also the sellers responsibility to smog it. I think Neil is offering a hell of a deal.

A week is pretty damn short, now that I think about it. So how about until the end of the month?
Also...let's say you buy the car...you are going to have to smog it again every two years. You'll need the parts anyway. I would suggest buying them. But if you can find someone you can borrow them from, of course that would work too.
There is no way a potential buyer would get stuck with parts and no car. That's why I'm talking about a deposit. I'll run through the steps again...
1- Come see car
2- If you decide you want to buy it, give me a deposit to hold it. I will then keep the car and NOT sell it to anyone else until the end of July. If at the end of July you decide you don't want it, or can't get the smog parts...then I refund your money
3- You get the smog parts
4- You bring me the smog parts, or we get them together...whatever works
5- I install the smog parts...you can of course help
6- I smog car
7- You bring me the rest of the money owed, I sign the car over to you.
This way you won't go after getting the smog parts until you have seen the car and given me the deposit and want to buy it. It works for me because now I have a pretty sure sell, and some needed money. It works for you because now you have plenty of time to get the parts you will need...and need again and again...and I won't sell the car to anyone else.
I dunno...seems pretty fair to me!
And mexicanpizza, thanks for getting my name right
