- Compatible with Canon EOS digital and film SLR cameras
- Telephoto zoom lens with image stabilizer maintains image clarity, even with slow shutter speeds (up to 3 stops correction); IS mode 2 for deliberate panning with a moving subject
- Front-focusing method with helicoid ring drive; locking zoom ring prevents lens from extending when carried on camera; 6-group helical zoom system (rotational angle: 84°)
- 15 elements in 10 groups; UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) glass element for less color fringing and improved contrast; optical coatings are optimized for digital SLR use
- Angle of view: 84° - 23° 20' (with full-frame camera)
- Maximum aperture: f/4-5.6; circular aperture design for natural-shaped, out-of-focus highlights
- Minimum focusing distance: 4.9' (1.5m)
- Filter size: 58mm

I just picked up a 17-40mm f/4L which has been pretty cool to mess with - the 16-35f/2.8L would be better but I read some naff reviews of it so I went with the 17-40. Also just got a 70-200 f/4L IS otherwise would be asking about yours. Thinking the extra 100mm might have been more useful @ track events and such.
Nice lens - good luck with the sale!

Here is where I was sitting (taken with 17-55 at 17 setting):
And here are a couple I took with the 70-300 at 300 setting, same place in the stadium (2nd level, about 10 rows up)):

Same thing with shooting AutoX. I could basically sit in one spot and take full frame photos of cars at any point on the track and not even have to get out of my seat...made **** real easy for a hella lazy person like myself (=

I really do love this lens, but there were definitely a few times where I feel like the extra reach would have been very useful... So in retrospect, maybe I would have bought this lens you have for sale... Someone else can learn from this right here right now.
