FS: 1974 VW Super Beetle
I'm getting ready to sell a Volkswagen 1974 Super Beetle, color gold. Car is in decent condition, engine is strong and was rebuilt around 5000 miles ago, you will probably want to make this a project car and add parts where you see fit, though everything is in good working condition except the brakes which I am working on getting completely replaced at Wheel Works before the sale.
Bought this car from a family friend for $500, have dumped over that amount into it, and have since lost interest in the project...I was going to make it a Cal Look bug but I can't afford a third car.
Here's some info:
original sunroof works great
new red original-replica seat covers front and rear with new padding
will have all new brake hardware at time of sale
has all five original wheels (full size spare matches other wheels)
tires are good to go driving on
4-speed manual transmission shifts smooth in all gears
engine runs strong, no problems and I just did an oil change with high-mileage oil and it sounds pretty dang good
interior is brown carpeted and you will want to replace it
headliner has a few small cuts but is decent white in color
exterior is painted factory style gold and the body has dents and dings but is easily fixable
suspension is good and working for being 30 years old though you'll probably want to lower it from the stock height and put in new rubber joints
body has a spot of rust under the battery tray (very common) and my boys at Ocean Garage have quoted me around $150 for the new boards plus labor, I recommend you take your work to them they do good work and will help you out with getting any other parts on the car repaired or replaced
all windows work, most rubber gaskets are pretty solid, and the car is a lot of fun to drive when you hang your elbow out the window and just cruise.
engine is original 1.6 "super", this is the biggest boxer engine VW put in the bug and is easy to work on
Send me an email if you want to know more or want to check out the car, or call Alan at 415-216-7331
I'm looking to get around $1500 OBO, OR SUBSTANTIAL WRX PARTS TRADE, and will give you a bunch of spare parts and manuals I have for it. Insurance is really cheap, and DMV charges $40 a year for registration and the car is registered for the rest of the year.
