I'm not interested in buying, however I am curious..tell me to shutup if you want
But, do you guys know how much stronger the transmission is, and how it is stronger? I know there were always rumors about the transmissions being beefed up over the '02, though I've never seen anything documented. Thanks

Hi,
Since the early 02 transmissions, they have been steadily revised over the years to improve strength and durability (and possibly to reduce cost).
There isn't really much documentation per say, although if you check with the dealerships, you will see that the part numbers and several of the transmission components have been continuosly revised due to issues, as well as the design issues (this is why the transmissions exhibit different part numbers throughout the model years). A good example I will cite is the early 02 transmission grind issue, which was later addressed by I believe a synchro revision.
Furthermore, we have been told by the smaller factories that manufacture the Subaru gearsets, that manufacturing processes have been changed to improve strength over the years, specifically in relation to heat treatment.
Sorry, aside from the part #'s and some design changes I don't have any "documents" for you, as Subaru apparently isn't willing to come out and document exactly how much stronger (or how strong any of) their transmissions are for obvious reasons, but I think taken side by side, you'll definately see steady improvements in the transmission designs across the model years, especially from the 02-03 to 04+ years.
BTW, these transmissions are practically brand new.
Cheers,
Gary

BTW, we're not saying these transmissions are RA gearset territory, the RA gearsets are manufactured through a different process, are 1mm thicker, and then WE cryo treat them for added durability and strength.
That's why the RA gearsets are more than double the price. You get what you pay for
