Car Info: 2002 WRX Wagon
Funny, I am in a similar spot. I just purchased a 99 OBS to replace my aging 93 Maxima SE that I now need to get rid of. I'm loving the nimble little AWD wagon, but still enjoy driving the Maxima even with 216K on the clock. My problem is a small steering rack leak and an exhaust leak at the manifold that, while not hard to fix, involve enough expense that it's not worth it for me.
Is the car at all mobile? I know you said blown transmission but if it can move 10 yards under it's own power, you might be able to retire it under California's Vehicle Retirement program and get a $1K rebate if you're nearing registration renewal time.
If someone is tempted, you could take my car for another $800 and swap in my transmission (5spd, ACT clutch, lightened flywheel) & white door
