It can get shorter but the issue that comes into play is the shifter plate. The kartboy alone on the WRX will come in contact with the shift plate on the WRX's and that is what happens with this shifter whe you try to make it really short. This plate is very easy to mod and with a dremel cut off disk or grinder your can get that clearence needed for first gear.

so you're saying w/ the +1 SD shifter there's no shifter plate clearance issues @ certain heights?

Yes that is correct. On the GC on the lowest settings the shifter had total clearance and the throw was about 15-20% shorter. As you raise the height the throw gets shorter but so does the clearance.

We haven't looked at the forester to see which one will work. The only piece that differs between the models is the lower ball joint. The Legacy has a very large bottum ball piece while the GD/GC has a smaller ball joint. If you could remove your shift **** and plastic surrounding piece so the shift lever is exposed and take a picture we can let you know which shifter you will need.

We just recently installed one on Gagan's 2.5rs. I believe he will be at the meet tonight and you can ask him to show it to you and feel how the throw is.
