Road Trip Advice

Hi Everybody,

I actually just bought my 2009 Subaru Impreza 2.5i Hatchback a few months ago and I have been loving it! This summer me and three other friends want to do a cross country road trip, NY to California and back. I know I am going to need a cartop carrier. I just wondering if anybody had any advice? Will my car be able to handle the weight and miles (2 guys and 2 girls) ? ? Any estimates on what I can expect mpg? Anybody do something similar with their imprezas? Any advice will be greatly appreciated !

Thanks!

P.S - I can generally get about 30 mpg on highway right now.

Welcome Aboard and congratulations on your new Impreza!
A good road trip is always nice particularly since the spring
season is finally here on the east coast.
The traffic conditions in New York can be hectic and exhausting
at times. The roads at least where I was had deep potholes,
holes, and cracks in the roads in certain places.Be cognizant
of where you are driving.
Inspect your fluids, air filter, tire pressure etc. before your trip
and plan on doing oil changes!

Places we are visiting

Hey so our route is morphing and changing subtly still, with 4 people it's hard to pick a ratio of places to see and how much time and each place. Basically we are driving from New York and first hitting the North. We plan on driving to the Badlands, then Yellowstone, Crater Lake, then San Fransisco. We are going to take the California 1 down to San Diego, then to Grand Canyon. We plan on driving north to Colorado. Then back down to see Austin and New Orleans. Then Atlanta, and Willimington VA and finally home. We hope to accomplish this all in a month!

P.S - I am pushing we leave out Austin and New Orleans in the interest in Mileage, Money and Time in other places

Sounds like fun!! I used to live in oregon so the crater lake part is really nice!! Also lots of things you can see from norcal to socal I cant say much for other states cus i have only lived in North Dakota, Washington, Oregon, Utah and now California.

What time of the summer are you going to make this trip? I suggest early summer verses late summer. Late summer tends to get pretty hot.

Unfortunately we are going in the middle of summer! Late June through late July, its all the only time we could all have our schedules agree. Do you think we can adequately do Crater Lake in a day?
