My first Subaru Stick Shift. Hello!

Hey I'm new to the forums and I bought a Subaru WRX STI.

Sadly, I must say this is my first stick shift car and I am learning on it. I am getting pretty good but, when it comes to hills I'm screwed.

Any pointers would be nice. How would I shift from 1st to 2nd smoothly?

Thank you.

on hills i usually pulse my clutch if im scared, keep your rpms below 2000. the shift from 1st to 2nd can be tricky at first, i either double clutch upshift or i just do it real slow or slip my clutch just a little bit into 2nd

hills were a PITA for me too. Luckily my driveway has enough of a hill to practice on. Just learn where the clutch starts to grab (when the engine slows down and the car starts to crawl forward) and remember your foot position (roughly how much you've let the clutch pedal out). The best thing to do though is to learn how to start smoothly and consistantly on flat ground, and then add in the hill (unless you HAVE to go up a hill everyday). Good luck and congrats on the new car

You could try the E-Brake trick too if you are scarred of crashing into car behind you. Just hold the ebrake up until you are engaged then let go.

Best thing is just time though. I think everyone is freaked out about rolling back at first, just takes a while and then you become really good at it and its not even a worry at all.

I hate the damn ebrake trick, never works for me. and I still hate the hill by the starbucks at cannery row on prescott, I actually stalled last week there, I was running late for work and tired as hell and just blah, stalling didn't make the day any better either
