'06 Impreza outback sport vs. '08 WRX

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum and have a quick question.
I currently have an '06 Impreza Outback Sport, which I love. It has 80k on it and is in great shape. I have 0 issues with this car. It is completely stock. A friend of mine is looking to get rid of his '08 WRX with 126k. He replaced the pistons with forged pistons and a new crank at 96k. There are some issues with the car that he is getting fixed before he tries to sell. It also has aftermarket downpipes, headers, exhaust, and intake. Also has oil temp and pressure gauges as well as boost gauge. The problems he is addressing before selling are as follows. There is a problem with the pedals moving. He said that a panel had to be welded. The drivers side headlight doesn't always work and then the oil pressure and boost gauges sensors got wet and don't work. Lastly, the top mount intercooler leaks slightly at times. Any advice or opinions would be great.

I'm looking forward to learning a lot on this forum.

I love my 2008, but to be honest its a pain in the butt for reliability. Seems like always something every month.

I also had the issue with having to weld the clutch assembly welds.

Thanks for responding. Like I said I love my '06 outback sport and how reliable it is and am considering the WRX due to the extra horsepower it has. That lifted outback sport looks pretty amazing but looked like a ton of work. Thanks for being honest about how unreliable the '08 can be. I will probably bring it to a mechanic I trust and have them assess the '08 and go from there. Thanks again

Sounds like it'd be a headache, and possibly end up costing you more money.

I have had my 08 for 3 years now and it has 117k on it. Ive been running a stage 1 tune, drop in air filter, catback exhaust, and coilovers and the only problem I have is the clutch pedal firewall welds. Which is getting fixed soon. I keep up on all oil changes and services. Very reliable! I drive it 100 miles a day on my commute to and from work.

I'm stage1 also, run rotella T6 every 3000 miles and severely OCD about maintaining and keeping my WRX in tip top shape. So far I had to replace the engine, struts, battery, rotors, shifter bushings, radio and the clutch needs to be done soon due to the clutch weld issue causing premature wear.

But, I have no interest in trading in mine for another. Even with the headaches, I love my 2008

Damn, I gotta say Mike, That sucks! Maybe its because your running Rotella, Ive been running Amsoil. Just kidding. My car is at the dealer as we speak getting the welds fixed and when I get it back I would still not trade it in. My engines been solid, I replaced the struts with coils at 102k. New Clutch at 106k, shifter bushings when I did the Kartboy short shifter at 60k, and my premium Nav/CD deck just stop taking in CD's. So besides an engine change, sounds like were pretty even.
