do cops regularly run your plates?
so i'm cruising down the street, see a cop car pull onto the road after i pass. i'm at the stop light a couple of hundred feet away when the cop flags me and tells me my drivers license is expired. it was-- a new jersey temporary license which i didn't bother to convert from my california one as i decided to move back this month. but anyway, what's up with that? do STi drivers have a bad rep?

Nope, cops will run your plates to make sure the car's not stolen. You in Jersey? Then you're in the wrong forum. New England never let Jersey in, no matter how much they tried to bribe.
And... if you're in Jersey, the STi is on the list for top stolen cars.
So... they're 'just doing their job'.

They run your plate so they can have what they call "probable cause" or a reason to pull you over if something is not right with your info on record. It is a good way for cops to do their job. Ask questions, make sure you are legit, etc.

my license plates are fine. it's my temporary drivers license, somehow linked to the plates, that was the problem.
i forgot about the stolen car aspect. when i got a clifford alarm installed, the dealer told me they had done a "boatload" of STi's. talking to the tech guy who did the installation, he told me he had personally done eight STi's. if i lived in newark i don't think i could sleep at night.
