You guys OK with another tagging along? Do you mind an old fart on an old school (my bike is probably older than 1/2 of i-club) hard tail getting back on the trail? I was quite something back in the day...
It looks like Connector and Divide Loop are rated easy to moderate, would you recommend these for someone that hasn't been on the dirt for a few years? My current tires are a little more road than mud so I may have trouble if we have any rain.
I can take the rejection if your worried about towing an old newbie...

I think you'd be ok. The entire ride ends up being 18 miles (almost 18.0 in fact). Connector has one nasty climb (going in each direction) but it's mostly rolling. Divide loop has a few climbs, one that is fairly long and nasty, but it's not uncommon to see people walking it or to be walking it ourselves. It's definitely not a very technical trail and there's some really fun descents.
Definitely come out! Mike is going to be riding a fully rigid bike with thumb shifters this weekend so you won't have much to worry about in that category. You might want to consider getting some new tires - in the shadier sections of the trail it's still a bit wet out there, and our last ride on this loop caused me to replace my wearing tires when I dorifto'd a corner in to the hillside ). As for style, we don't race out there or get competitive and we ride at a moderate pace - the last few rides out there have been ~8mph avg speed. Worst case scenario - if you're bonking or otherwise suffering, there are multiple points where you can bail and get back to the car pretty easily.

Cool thanks for the info. Park on Lake Clementine Rd?
Thumb shifters are making a huge comeback!! (actually I'm trying to get a rumor started). Deore XT FTVW! (for the vintage win)
Don't feel alone, I broke my collar bone drifto'n then headplanto'n into a road cut .

Parking: Come down Foresthill Rd. (across the high bridge), just past where Old Foresthill Rd. hits Foresthill Rd., you'll see Lake Clementine Rd. to the left. Turn there and come in about half mile to a mile - you'll see a parking area on the left. Not sure what you'll be driving, but depending on how many cars are there (and where they're parked), I can't always park my lowered wagon, so if some of have to we'll park at the first lot you see on the right just as you turn on to Clementine Rd.
See you then . I've got my camera all charged up and we'll get some good pics

So I went by Bicycles Plus in Folsom today (on my drive home) to inquire about forks. The guy actually told me to buy the forks mail order. :rotfl: I wasn't expecting that. They get an A+ for brutal honesty and being realistic. They weren't particularly helpful on fork choices, but the guy was knowledgeable on fitting the bike to the rider. So I may go there for installation and fitting the right bars and stem to me and the bike.

Old skool ******:
It shifts well and the brakes are adjusted as well as cantilevers can go. Hopefully the tubes will hold air and I'll be good to go.

I'm right there with ya... I worked for Ibis Cycles 20+ years ago and built this bike for myself while there. Oldschool laid back geometry big frame (even for 6'2") but it fits me better than any other bike I have ever ridden. And who remembers cam brakes?
