Hitg 092907
Soda Springs @ The Fire Station
Fire Road/Bunnyhill
Trail Head - HITG
Still climbing
Taking a well needed rest to thaw out the toes
Summery:
Did HITG on Saturday and it was pretty tough for me. I was feeling pretty fatigued and I’m sure the altitude and weather did help either. Even thought I tried to hydrate on Friday I almost feel like it wasn’t enough (although my camelback only ended up being only half empty at the end of the ride – used about 1.5 liters) because I was cramping after the 1st descent (maybe it was a combo of me getting sick, the climb, weather, and altitude).
So it kinda sucked as far as my fitness level goes, but the trail was pretty crazy; 2” to 4” of new snow pretty much 85% of the ride. I was surprised how well the bikes did in the snow. Pretty much no slippage on climbs as long as you stayed seated, and the descents were way cool, but just slower than normal. We started at about 10:40 and finished at about 3:15, so needless to say the snow slows you down quite a bit, that and the fact I wasn’t feeling well didn’t help. Quite the experience though, and most definitely a dust free one!

We weren't the only crazies out on the trial though. When we pulled up there were two guys sitting in the car saying they had been there for an hour waiting for things to warm up a bit; we never saw them on the ride though.
Then right when we were leaving another car of 3 guys pulled up and started getting ready to ride. They eventually caught up with us from all my stopping, but only one of the three guys passed us and we eventually re-passed him on some DH section just before popping out on to a fire road. The guy who passed was actually pretty good and he was just waiting on his two other friends who seemed to be in worse shape than us.
