Nice, how do you like it? I shopped the 07 against the Epic and ended up with the Epic. I wouldn't mind having a Stumpjumper in addition to the Epic though, for riding some of the stuff up in Tahoe that could use a bit more plush and travel.

Well, I just got my staples and stitches out. I also got some xrays that they took right after my surgery two weeks ago and a bone stimulation device. I'll get pics of all that in a bit. It looks like I've got four more weeks in this thing and then they'll do another set of xrays to see if I've healed enough to start walking again or if they need to cast me.

Your x-ray looks like they got everything lined up perfectly. Once you are fully healed, I don't think you will have any problems.

I wish they had done as good a job on my right hip.

Yeah I'm really happy with the treatment I've received so far. My doctor and his physicians assistant have been extremely helpful, they've communicated well with me regarding what they plan to do, what they did (in surgery), they've been available for me to ask a ton of questions and never acted like I was being a pain or asking stupid questions at all. I got really lucky to be assigned to this doctor.

The Stumpjumper has a less aggressive riding style than the Epic. I've ridden them both and the Epic is defiantly more of a race style bike. Your riding position defiantly makes you want to go a bit faster on the Epic. I was really on the fence with my purchase between the Epic and Stumpy too. I came from a hardtail and was septic about getting into a true full suspension bike because I still do climbs. A test ride swayed me to the Stumpy tho.

I ride a Medium frame, if we ever ride together we can swap pedals if you wanna try it.

What happened to your leg?

Yeah I went with the Epic for its climbing ability (I love the brain) but if my budget were higher, I'm not sure I would have stayed with the Epic, and instead might have gotten the brain equipped StumpJumper. I didn't bother riding that model though because I was afraid I'd really like it and would end up making a really poor financial decision

For my leg, I broke it. I was riding up in Truckee on July 8 and I went off a small jump before I remembered that I suck at jumping. I screwed the whole thing up, landed sideways and as the bike slid out and filled the front derailleur, cranks and pedals with lots of dirt, my leg got trapped between the ground and the pedal and received spiral fractures of the tib and fib. I'm off my mountain bike for 9-12 months .

Hopefully I'll be riding my road bike on a trainer again in a month though - my leg is looking really good (healing-wise) and they're thinking I'll be able to get in to a walking brace on or around 8/30, and my work-release papers say weight bearing on 9/15 . Only time will tell though; I have xrays on the 30th to track the healing and see what we do next. In the mean time, I'm working from home, sitting on the couch a lot and using this neato bone generation device.

You can see all of the pics from this whole thing here.

Holy ****! That looks bad. Hope you heal up soon.

Where did you race? Did you race at Prairie City by chance? My roommate raced there every Wednesday before the season ended. (he's lost 70lbs in the last year due to mt bike riding). I'm thinking about trying it next season.

gl healing
