Good Lord! Four hundred bucks for one lousy point?!? That's insane! Just one more reason not to speed around here, I guess. Actually, I'm surprised I haven't been pulled over yet. I can't count how many times I've done 60 on Del Paso Rd. near Raley's. I've noticed there are a lot more cops on that road lately. Fortunately, Miatas are reputed to be slow cars.

Are you sure having a lapse in covereage isn't going to cost you more? Insurance companies hate to see people who have gone totally without insurance for any length of time.

All I know is, my AAA agent was looking at my record, and she says, "You know, this point goes away the 25th...Let's start your coverage then..." So now I'm saving 400 bucks, I really can't argue with that. Keep in mind this is a 2nd car I'm insuring, not my daily driver.

Not separate policies, I bet. His agent is simply going to add a car onto his existing policy, which should actually get him a bit of a discount (multi-car). I know I get a discount for insuring more than one car. I get the good driver discount, too. Soon, omygata should be up for that discount, too. So between the two discounts, I can see how coverage might drop a bit. Bummer you have to wait so long to drive your other car. You never did tell us what kind of car it is, btw.

okay yeah that does make more sense, cause i know Progressive was going to raise my rates like $45/month if i dropped my policy (and then got another one) after my civic was stolen. i ended up just letting the policy float until i picked up the legacy, then switched it over to the wagon and dropped the civic (which i didn't even own anymore anyway).

But the multi-car discount and the point coming off of his record are separate events; regardless of his driving history multi-car discoutn would probably save him money if one car is expensive to insure, and the other is cheap.

True, BAN, about the multi-car discount, but then he'd have to go and change the policy status yet again when the point came off. I think the idea the insurance agent had in mind was to get it all done with at one time.

BTW -- I just realized that I can't make the dang meet because I forgot about a friend coming through town tonight. Crap! If he hadn't called me, I would have totally forgotten. I'll be there next Saturday, though.

Different Policies. My subaru is under A++ and the corolla is under AAA. Basically, I go to school and such so my parents still pay for part of the A++ insurance. I'm paying AAA in full though because I want to track the corolla.
