nah, I gotta go home today. I'm trying to find a good contractor to landscape the back yard. the guy I found that I really liked doesn't seem to be licensed (the license number on his business card is registered to a diff. company name, diff. address and is expired), so I gotta go hit up my neighbors and find out who they used.

Thanks, though.

Matt,

Cross Creek Pools and Landscaping in Citrus Heights did my pool and all of the landscaping around it. I don't know how extreme you want to go, but they do simple landscaping jobs (plants, irrigation, lawn, mow strips, etc.) to full blown pools, spas, ponds, and landscaping.

I still haven't scanned all of the pictures onto my website (I'll do it one of these days), but here is their website: http://www.crosscreekpools.com

cool, I'll check em out. We just want grass, some plants, sprinkler system, patio and sidewalk. I want to spend at the most $4,000 if I can get away with it - and my unlicensed buy quoted me $3900 so I don't know if it'll work out :|

I'll check em Thanks.

Concrete is not cheap. I have a 20x10 area that I had conrected at the time of my pool and landscaping and the add directly from the concrete guy was $1200 (5 or 6 years ago).

you could prolly do it yourself. all you'd need is a bag or two of grass seed, a garden hose, a garden hoe, one of those lame-o lawn sprinklers, and a butter knife.

yeah, our patio will be relatively small and we want a sidewalk around the side of the house. This guy quote $2k for the concrete and $1800 for the lawn/shrubs and stuff.

I'm gonna give your reco a call right now, Mike.

Thanks

Tool of the gods.

Ok, so I've got an appt. for an estimate with Cross Creek tomorrow. They sound like they might be sorta pricey.

You guys wanna have an i-club "lancscape sonicsubys back yard" meet?

I'd be happy to help you install you sprinkler system. The only part I'd want a pro for is installing the controller. I'd be happy to help with just about any of it actually, except the heavy lifting to get the place cleared of all the crap that's in there.

actually, I can clear out jungle world of all the weeds in about a day with some help to bag the cut weeds.

My problem is that I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to:

Pouring concrete (including making forms and such)
Laying Sod (including sprinklers)
Planting stuff
Drains

I appreciate the offer though and getting help from friends may be something we look in to.

If it helps, you can do it in stages.

Clear out the garbage, down to bare soil

Install sprinklers

Get concrete poured (I'll talk to my dad about how involved this is- I know he poured most of what's in his backyard)

sod/finish landscaping. don't do seeding, because by the time it grows in, the weeds that were there before will blow right back in from the other side of the fence, and ruin it before it gets started.

Also, as for drainage, technically you have to make it drain to the street without crossing property lines. But, since you don't have backyard neighbors, you can just slop it back.

that's what we're thinking. The best quote I've received so far is $3900 and that guy doesn't appear to have licensing/insurance costs to worry about, which would explain the cheap price, but also makes me unable to hire him.

The cheaper I can do this project for, the better off Josey and I will be. I've got some people coming out tomorrow to do an estimate, and I may have the concrete/drains done proffessionally and then do the sprinkling and grass myself.

So let's make this official: Does anyone in this thread besides Kevin know what they're doing that would be willing to help also? We could work out some kind of payments (cash or food or something + great company for the day )

Lemme know!

I'll help out. I did my front yard and my friend's entire front and back. I put in a sprinkler system and plants from scratch. You're on your own for concrete though.
