The price was right. I can make another one in five minutes.

That’s weird. I didn’t think I said anything wrong.
Your reply was fine and left unchanged. I edited just the quoted section.

Crap, mike
I'm sorry.
You going with the bigger 'box now?

I might be interested in your old one if you're getting rid of it, would be a good project, as I'm going in a different direction.....

I'm thinking the RA set Rallispec sells, but with a different 5th gear. MPJ will sell the entire tranny installed for $2600 and send my core back to Rallispec to be rebuilt for someone else. I had a feeling this was going to happen so I've set aside funds for this, but it still sucks.

I gave serious thought to the 6MT, but I don't like the cost:benefit ratio. $6K before installation plus a new downpipe just isn't in the cards.

I'll probably have MPJ throw in a new clutch while they're at it. Maybe the Exedy Sport. I thought a bout a flywheel too, but I need to be able to drive around town.

I'm travelling down Fair Oaks behind some beater mini pickup. He gets into the left turn lane, and I decide to speed up to get past him. I rolled on the power (note: I did not jump on the gas), and heard the most god aweful grinding and crunching sound. That was followed by the sound of bits o'3rd gear falling into the bottom of the case and being stirred up by the oil pickup. I thought I was totally screwed, but at least I could shift into the other gears. The car is driveable, but not much fun without 3! Plus it makes an aweful racket.

280 3rd gear dyno pulls probably didn't help matters any. What's surprising is that there was no warning. 3rd worked fine all day Friday and Sunday morning. I've never had any grinding in 3rd.

Mike originally told me it would take a week to get the tranny from Rallispec and a day to do the swap. I *should* be okay for Buttonwillow.

I told Terri it was coming out of the wedding funds, but she didn't appreciate the joke.

Don't know if this would work for you, but this guy has an STi ver. 4 transmission for sale: $2200

Sure am! I like em...car is a bit bouncy but that's because I'm still on stock struts. I'm going to try and upgrade them in a month or two.

I will probably take pics today or tomorrow - I was too busy this weekend to get any

Well, it looks like I'll have to back out of Buttonwillow. MPJ doesn't have any RA gearsets ready and won't have the parts from Rallispec in time to build one and install it for me. Mike was kind enough to offer up a used 6MT at an awesome price, but I would have to change out my downpipe because the cat would hit the bigger 6MT case. Since I have the Vishnu signature exhaust, no other downpipes will mate to the remaining components so I'm screwed. I'm going to call Nate tomorrow and see if he has any other ideas. I just don't want to go with another stock 5MT because I know it would just meet the same fate as this one.

Frustration is my word for the day.
