if you want to get the quickest spool up possible on a USDM 2.0L WRX, keep your TD-04 turbo, get a Hallman RX MBC, uppipe+TBE(catless), Perrin IC hoses, and a protune from Ed. I swear Ed is a magician with tuning.

a friend of mine with a stock 05 STi and I did a 3rd gear pull on hwy 1 and he pulled lightly on me, ended up only a few feet behind his rear bumper.

I was perviously tuned for the 3 port solenoid and with the stock 3rd cat. After getting rid of the 3rd cat, and getting the MBC, it is like a new car again with how hard it pulls.

weird....I saw dyno charts showing 15 plus wheel hp on stock cars?

And I have seen first hand a larger turbo car gain a BUTT load of power off one.

Ed and Mike as far as I know will both attest to the quality of the SPT intake. I didn't have plans to do an intake at all until I saw the results from that thing. Amazing. And VERY tunable.

SPT does market a 15 WHP gain. The number sounds nice, but I would be curious if the HP gain is linear as well as the torque. HP really does't mean much to me.

not denying the fact it will give gains, cause it will. But only under certain conditions. Over all, for my goals I do not feel any intake would make it worth the $100+ is worth it. I would rather use that money on tuning or something else, like those nice JDM fog lamps.

having a 2.0L motor is a limitation to what power can be made, and a bigger turbo then the td-04 on a 2.0L is laggy in my opinion. I have not yet driven in a smaller VF turbo'd WRX then a VF34, which to me was bleh.

laggy....bah. small 18g will suit me and my goals of 250-280 just fine.

course I think my motor will go before I get around to it. Still redoing my suspension.

I have seen the dyno chart for a 2.5 liter with a 20g an the intake. It help big time with larger turbos.

I have seen dyno charts on bone stock cars with the K&N. Saw a bone stock STI gain 22hp and somewhere around that in torque with the K&N.

Bottom line...depending on your goals they can help a lot if you get a good one.....one of the few tuneable ones. And they can help a little....so if your goals are to stay street legal and under warranty and add some oomph they are perfect.

I can't wait til they add some more parts to their street legal warrantied catalog. haaa.

it was a long time accepted deal that intakes are pointless on our cars and often hurt things. But with the new ones coming out the numbers are showing they do help. Tuners agree.

They do help in many cases, but on the 2.0L platform and stock turbo, you will get more for your money in tuning.
Once the air flow from the stock intake becomes a restriction, yes the short ram will make a huge difference.

The TD-04 flows 360 cfm @ 15 psi.
A TD-05 18g will flow 600 cfm @ 14.7psi.

The difference is significant for the amount of air that turbo will suck in, so upgrading your inlet hose and intake will most definitely give you some good gains.

We need to talk tuning over a beer. If you come out to the auto-cross on sunday I will be there most of the day from early morning on.

I doubt it. Maybe the yellow 510 could have, he is f'ing QUICK!

my best time was 73.479.

215/45/17(hankook R-S2) tires are no good for auto-x. they have great grip, just a sooner breaking point then my 225/45/17(Falken 451) which I used at the school the day before. The Falkens are also more predictable.
