Grand Prix @ K1 Speed San Francisco

Who told you that SA was fire proof? It's not. Who told you that SA was better for impacts?
SA uses a higher density foam next to your head, causing more damage in low impact incidents. Like you would get from hitting your head against a window glass and or a roll cage. SA which is Snell Approval, is better for higher speed impacts (80mph~ and above).

If what you said is true about how Snell SA rated helmet causes more damage at low impact incidents, I will continue using them. I would much prefer more damage at low speed impacts than more damage at high speeds. SA rated helmets can protect your head from multiple impacts (ex. a car rolling causing the helmet to have multiple impacts) while M rated helmets will protect your head from one massive impact (ex. falling off a motorcycle and having contact with pavement and then sliding).
If I was to pay the same amount for a M rated and a SA rated helmet, I would rather have a SA rated helmet since I have no plans to ride a motorcycle. Besides, it all comes down to what you feel is right to protect your head. If I'm in high risk situations (rally, road race, open wheel, etc.), you can bet I would be spending the money and use a FIA 8860 homologated helmet.

So, who told you all that? I never said Snell SA ratings meant fire proof. Nothing is fire proof. Even Nomex isn't fire proof. All these safety equipment will only help keep the temperature at the skin remain low in the case of a fire and only for a X amount of time. Which means it will increase your survivability in the case of being trap in a fire.

Yes, but you will never have an impact at the same speed twice. It's not possible. But I see your point.
Whatever people feel most comfortable with! At least you do your research. Most people assume all helmet technologies are the same. But you'd know about in-molding vs shell and foam being separate!
At least you're staying safe.

Ok, I just got off the phone with K1 (sorry for the lag) We have January 27th at 5:00 pm. They ask that we arrive 15 minutes prior to get everyone checked in. Also, everyone can pay for themselves as they arrive. I booked the Regular Grand Prix which is $60. I told them that we have at least 8, but no more than 12.
