Very naive question, but what specific violations are cops writing folks up for? Simple over-the-noise-limit mufflers? Tinted drivers windows? Or more serious stuff like engine mods (aftermarket turbos & intercoolers, lack of catalytic converters)?

Couple buddies of mine just got sent to the ref for their non carb'd intakes, but the reasoning for them being pulled over was "looking heavily modified/cracking down on street racers".
VW GTi and Mazda 6 are the cars they drive.

Thanks Impreza Al. I've maintained a sleeper look to my '02 WRX on the exterior (Morette headlamps, Rota SDR rims are it), but 'interior' have changed EVERYTHING engine & suspension except the engine head.
The things that don't look stock are the welded aluminum radiator (shiny, big), the intercooler looks 'normal' but has "SPEARCO" sprayed on in big blue letters, and the all new exhaust (at least with a catted downpipe, and a borla HUSH muffler). I've heard already that the intercooler and even the catted downpipe (shiny) might get flagged at my next (1st) smog check due in November...I'd hate to get written up even before that, just for going to a meet...
Perhaps I'll have to spray over the lettering if that's possible, but the downpipe...perhaps spray that too so it isn't shiny looking...or rub dirt onto it.

I don't know if the DP you have now will pass but I'm positive the stock one will.
I'm not to worried if I get pulled over and they ask me to pop my hood. Everything is pretty much stock and the CAI i have is CARB. So I should be good. Just have to remember to roll down my windows =)
