Permits & Reservations (415) 831-5500.
Reserving a picnic/BBQ area in Golden Gate Park is reasonably inexpensive. My friends recently held a BBQ party in the Pioneer East Meadow for their kids with about 80 guests. I forget what they paid to reserve the area but I think it was under $50. They brought their own folding tables, chairs, and BBQ grills, and rented one of those gas-powered trampoline things for the younger kids.
Alcohol is allowed at this location. Parking is free, and is plentiful if folks arrive early enough to beat the museum goers.
