Please no. It truly is a "gimmick" rally. I would prefer sticking to TSD rallys. Well, that's just my opinion.

It looks like Rich, Bryan, Brian, Jane, and Greg and Selke are about the only real solid enthusiasts for this idea.

And Rich, I'd say you need an attitude adjustment, gimmick rallies are the only true entry level format, anything else requires clocks and calculations to be succesful, and everyone needs to start somewhere (and that is the one rally that I wouldn't have to write, pre-check, line up workers for and put on)

So we have enough people to work checkpoints, but nowhere near enough to justify organizing a series, and besides winter is over next week.

Maybe we'll try doing one or two later in the year, but its going to need more people wanting to do it, as it just isn't worth the hassle for 5 or 6 cars to show up.

What the hell is wrong with everyone involved with this club? Seriously. These events are some of the best ways to have fun with/in your car. This always depresses the hell out of me, as I'm sure it does you Pete, when we can't get any Subaru folks to come out and participate in super fun, relatively inexpensive events that showcase some of the best roads in the greater Bay Area. It's especially sad because I really enjoyed these when Pete initially organized them, and without any additional entrants, we won't get to do them again. Boo BAIC....BOOO!

Pete,

You forgot the 3rd Brian (hp). We've had a total of eight other folks write in with questions or to say that they are definitely interested. See the list below:
Irishdude, Angelus897, mcdrama, pkapride, MBasile, kYLEMtnCRUZr, salvator_rizzo, OldGuySTI

Now I know that pkapride and OldGuySTI are rallye enthusiasts. Irishdude has been putting on the recent North Bay drives. So I'm sure we've got a core group who would encourage their friends to check this out if we can only get it off the ground.

So I'll throw out an offer ... you help me wire my Alfa in my new car and I promise to finish that Marin/Sonoma TSD rally I've been working on for years! It could easily be ready for late April or early May.

Maybe we should make these rallies more like the organized drives with some timing thrown in? Most of the folks who do these drives are used to having a set of RI's or maps now. A more subtle introduction to TSD's and Monte Carlo's!

For those who want to, we could add in the April Fool's rallye as a bonus event for those who are not doing Irishdude's drive on April 1st. The rest of you can do the Christmas Toy Rallye (1st Sunday in December) instead if you want to.

Pete, you've introduced many people to rallying over the years. Try and think back to how ecstatic they were when they first discovered it. Remember Casey? Brian? me? Byran? I'm sure there's more.

Come on, you've got a group of workers lined up ... let's keep it simple, but let's do it!

^^ well said, Jane!

It seems that there are plenty of people interested in the monthly North Bay drives... I bet a lot of them are just hesitant to enter a rally because they are unfamiliar with the concept. A lot of them might discover how much fun it is if given the opportunity to get their feet wet at a group drive with an intro to rally and some easy timing elements.

I'd be all over that Sonoma/Marin TSD you mentioned.

I'm glad to hear that some of you are enthused, but my situation is such that I am not going to have the time to write/re-write/pre-check/put on much of anything- as I have commitments and obligations of some kind for just about every weekend in the forseeable future.

So I tell you what, maybe if we could get a little meeting together of the core group who want to do this, and plan a calendar including who will write and pre-check each event we might be able to pull something off, but it can't be a one-man series like it was before, I just don't have the time for that.

A meeting is a good idea. Let's fix a date within the next two weeks. Evenings or weekends, East Bay or Marin. I'll make the time for it.

I really think we have a core group of workers who have enough experience to do all the writing, pre-checking etc. I've already offered to finish the Marin/Sonoma TSD. I'm sure Greg could write a Monte Carlo. Brian, Byran & Rich I'm sure you guys could come up with something too!

Okay, so who is going to help me with installing the wiring and setting up my Alpha rally computer? I honestly don't have the skills or knowledge to do it on my own.

Oh and Rich ... I actually agree with you about most Gimmick Rallies. I mean who wants to spend a Saturday evening driving round an industrial park?! However, there are two Gimmick Rallies that I like to do each year just because they are done during the day and usually on beautiful back roads. April Fool's and the Christmas Toy Rallye.

Alfa Pro, or Alfa Elite?

I have a Pro sitting in a desk drawer. Just need to purchase the wheel speed sensor for it and hook it up.

Alfa Elite.

BTW, I have a spare wheel speed sensor. Bought it two years ago and have never used it. Willing to sell for same price I paid for it - which included a 10% discount.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but it's the whole wiring part that scares me silly. I'd hate to do something stupid and blow up my nice new car. I'd really prefer to have someone helping me.

I'll lend a hand!! I'd be happy to wire something up for you if you'd like.

I'll see what I can do to make my schedule mesh so we can get you set up to rally!!

I'm also down to meet up in the next few weeks.

Pete, I totally understand your situation and wouldn't expect you to be able to do everything involved with running an entire series. I'm not sure if I'd be much help as I don't have a real rally computer yet, but I'd definitely be down to do pre-checks and/or anything else that doesn't require a rally comp.

Who else wants to meet up and talk about possibly getting things together for a small series? Maybe just an excuse to meet up and get a beer somewhere and talk rally

Roo - thanks!

Brian - we'll make this happen yet.

It looks like I have free time this coming w/e, plus a bunch of free evenings the next couple of weeks for wiring or meetings. What are other peoples' schedules like?

How about Pyramid Brewery on Gilman in Berkeley? Just across the bridge for the Marin folks and easy to get to for the East Bay folks - plus plenty of parking.
