haha we're doing IVs tomorrow and my partner hasn't ever done one... lol hopefully he's a quick learner... we're using 18s which will definitely bleed quick and make a mess...

Hey Steven, I have a story for you. Something you can learn from. for real

So relatively i have no fear of needles. I had surgery in highschool and they had to put me under. It took the nurse FIVE trys get the IV in my arm. Yes FIVE. I had bruises up and down my arm the next day. So don't be that girl. But from that experience, I learned that smaller gauges work better for my veins.

Fast forward to the last time I got blood drawn a couple years ago. I told the dude, "Please use a small gauge because you are not going to get anything with a big gauge. trust me" Sure enough the jackass comes back and sticks me with the needle.. hits my vein BUT, guess what... the needle was to big. and he says "oh I guess I should use a smaller needle" duhhhhhhhhh don't be that guy. lol.

Lol that sucks. It's a monkey skill that just takes practice. To draw blood they need a medium size needle for volume (I.e. 18/20 gauge for an adult) don't be a sissy It's all about vein selection, and the patient's anatomy.

Smaller gauge = bigger needle. I think you know that but your post was wrong.

We have IV dummies then each other then patients. Patients can always refuse car, you just have to tell them and sign a paper. The caregiver won't care
