Running for me is 70% mental and 30% physical. Get a good stretch and don't think you need to start off sprinting. Start off slow and tell yourself that what ever speed you set your pace at, you will not slow down for anything... so be smart and don't set the pace too quick or it will kill your morale when you have to slow down.
continually increase your pace, but SLOWLY and just cruise, listening to music is a really good way to win that mental battle if you need help with that. but be smart and setup up your songs in an order that will help you discipline your whole run. put the most up-beat and motivating songs where you will need the extra boost.
and if you don't have running shoes, spend $30 and go get something that atleast resembles a pair, then you should feel a lot better.

Cadences are suppose to keep your mind of the run and facilatate breathing. The night before have a good carb meal. i.e. pasta and drink lots of water. Remember! Find RUNNING shoes that fit you perfectly which is determined by the shape of your foot. Ask someone at the store to size you with the specific type of running shoe that fits you. Other than that do what Steven says, and it's going to take time. One last thing, don't wait for a running day to run. You should run, jog, like it's a lifestyle. Trust me it will save your life down the road. One thing that helps me is that I picture my self chasing a terrorist or a bad guy. . .and most of the time. . .it works!
Daze out, and at ease your mind, and think positive. You'll do fine! Hope this helps!
