All I can say is... WOW.

Sean.......don't go there. Please.
It's possible for friends to get together outside of work (seriously, it was a couple friends having dinner and joking about it later) and have it not be a public meet. It wasn't you that was the problem at meets, it was the jackass idiots dragging in other stuff that none of us wanted to be associated with. Most of the comments people make come from personal experience, good or bad. Don't drag the same idiots we have to deal with up there already into this forum.

I've gone out of my way for years to build meets and help attendance and take care of new guys, and I'm not going to be painted with that brush, alright?

Sucks about the tint job; if you can get them to replace it with something, 50% gives a useful amount of protection without being noticeably tinted, especially if the back windows are dark, so that might be the way to go. The last place I got tinted only charged me $90 to remove 5 windows worth (big wagon windows, too) of tint, so pulling two and redoing them at another shop shouldn't be more than $100-$125 if you just need to get something done.

On a completely unrelated note, I'll go from no running Subarus to 2 within the next week or two, so I should be bringing out one fo the new toys this Friday, seince I haven't seen all you guys in a while

They kinda rushed her through the selection process, and didn't bother to tell her that what she wanted wasn't legal. Somehow they sold her on 15%, and she thought everything was hunky-dory because they didn't have her sign a waiver. After she left the shop she swung by my work to have me come out and take a look.

Rae: "So what do you think?"
Me:

Right about then she realized that there was a problem. I looked over her half-assed paperwork and then we also realized that, "Illegal film installations are not covered by this Warranty." So after we get home, she calls to complain that they didn't warn her about it being too dark. Their canned response is "The guy that helped you just told me that he told you that any tint on the front windows is illegal." She calls bull****, but they tell her that if she wants it changed to something lighter, it'll cost more money. (BTW, the mother****er on the phone lied; 70% light transmission is the legal limit in CA, they just don't sell any film that's light enough to meet the standard.)

Cliffs Notes: My wife got ripped-off by a window tint shop that didn't tell her what she was doing was illegal. Clear-cut case of a shop taking advantage of a woman's lack of automotive knowledge. But they don't realize yet that her husband works in the business.

That sucks, you didnt tell her/she didnt know that tint on the front windows was illegal though? They must have slipped up, I have taken four friends there and every time they said, "you know its illegal on the front windows, right?" and we would all say yeah and they would go ahead and do it. They also said it was only $20 to get taken off the front windows if we got tickets. And the darkness isnt not too much their fault if she picked 15% all around, right??? They have been great with the 5-6 people I know have gone their, it just sucks she had to have this crappy situation.

However, if you wanted them to take off the front tint (because they didnt tell her it was illegal, they should do it for free) but if you want them to put on lighter tint for the back three it would be wrong to have them do it for free. If she picked the tint % on the back and theres no illegal % for the back three, then thats just personal taste too late.

They fixed mine after it bubbled due to cold weather and mine was "illegal."

Sorry, I dont mean to defend them, I am just saying its only there bad on the front two windows if they didnt let her know it was illegal, atleast from what I understand.

...

50%???? That's soo light lol. A good set up is like 35/15 for most people.

That shop will remove the tint for probably like $50 (5 windows) and they have been great for everyone so far, so I don't want it to turn into a "bash on that tint shop" kind of thing. The deal was 5 windows lifetime warranty $150 for everyone I have sent there, that's a great deal and hard to beat. And the quality of the tine on all the cars I have sent has been excellent.

All the shops around here are into the $200+ for tint, that's not even removal.

Light was the point in my case; I was thinking about 35, but with how dark the rest of the car is, and so much glass, it would be obvious it was too dark to a cop. My car's 50% on the front two and 5% for the rest, ceramic tint.

Like this, I never get glanced at, but it still cuts down on UV and darkens stuff a touch.

oh gotcha, i thought you were saying 50% for all the windows and i was saying that was hella light for the back. 50% is cool for those who dont want cop trouble and it still looks good

The whole situation is upside down. I thought I could trust her judgement, and she thought that they would notify her about any legal issues.
yeah, its just a crappy situation. so is all the tint coming off?
