Legacy water pump replacement.
Hello to all.
I have just become the owner of a '96 Subaru legacy.
I picked it up three hours from home and drove it for an hour before the water pump locked up intermittently and I lost all the coolant out the front of the motor
by the crank pulley. I parked it and had to go back to get it with a car hualer.
The car was parked for about six months before I got it, which probably explains the water pump failure.
Although I am an experianced mechanic myself (27 yrs)
and work on some of the IHBA dragboats you see on Speedvision,
I am totally perplexed as to why I cannot find the water pump on this car.
It seems to be behind the cover around the crankshaft pulley.
This is the first horizontally opposed engine I have seen since the Volkswagon.
Can anyone post a drawing to clarify things for me?
Thanks,
Tim

It is behing the timing belt covers. It is alot of work but you get to know your engine real well. I attached a pic here to help you.. I have a 98 LGT and it should not be too different. Hope these help.
