who's gone from WRX to LGT?
I apologize if this has been discussed, but i didn't see a previous thread.
with soa's buyback program, the temptation is there to trade in my 02 wrx wagon for an lgt. i've driven the lgt and think it's great. however, i still love my wrx. has anyone gone from wrx to lgt and have any comparisons to make (positive/negative)? it's hard to compare vehicles when the test drives are relatively short and controlled. i did get a chance to throw around an lgt at the car and driver alameda demo, but still am curious to actual owners feedback. thanks!

I was going to trade in my WRX for the LGT, but the dealer would only give me $18k for it. So I sold it privately instead for more money, and then bought the LGT. I do not for one second regret going to the LGT from the WRX. The LGT is a better car all the way around, albeit less "boy-racer-ish". The LGT is faster than the WRX, and the handling is more neutral. The WRX understeers like a pig. The LGT is also nicer on the inside. It's just more grown up than the WRX. I really did like my WRX, but the LGT is better, at least for me.

I'm not done with my WRX yet, but I will definitely consider the LGT when it comes time to buy. I've taken too good of care of my WRX to let it go this soon. It should be good for another few years, and I don't have a family which requires more space. I love everything about the LGT, but I when I'm ready to buy there might be more awd competition in the same segment. I'm going to be watching Legacy owner's comments about their transmission, specifically the syncros. That is the main concern I have with the WRX.
For the record, I don't think my WRX wagon understeers too badly.

Leg GT
A neighbor of mine bought one when they first came out. Its a great car and a great car to go to from a WRX if you want the luxury. Aftermarket is catching up to it as well. I've driven the car several times (as we commute sometimes together and we alternate cars and drivers - I have a WRX wagon with a Vishnu stage 2 setup - though, its at the moment, back to stock).
For me personally, its definitely a step up in refinement, ride, and stock power. It handles and drives awesome and I really like the looks of it - as compared to my bugeye'd wagon. It just needs more aftermarket power, and it would be perfect.
I was under the impression the tranny is "stronger" than the WRX in regards to syncros etc, but I could be wrong. Since his car is stock, there is no way to tell, unless he starts to increase his power like my wagon. I've never had problems with my tranny, but I baby it and try to avoid hard launches.

It's nice
I just traded in my '02 WRX (wagon, 5M, gutted Uppipe and AccessPort Stage 1) for an '05 GT wagon (manual, of course) on Saturday. I am very happy with it. I actually started to get annoyed with all the engine and road noise from the WRX plus the lack of toys in the interior. My, or at least my dog's, favorite feature of the new wagon is the huge sunroof! When it comes to synchros, I find it much easier to shift into first then the WRX. It only has a couple hundred miles on it, so I'm still not stomping the gas pedal just yet.
Before my WRX, I had a 96 STS. This Legacy GT has the luxury of the Caddy, but the performance and reliability (thank gawd, reliability!) of the WRX.
I'm pissed that I have to buy a new AccessPort for the Legacy, because it is incompatible to my WRX one. Oh well.
The only bad thing so far about the Legacy: The cupholders are too big for 12 oz. sodas . The WRX had a big and a small one for every situation.

well i brought my 02 wagon in to get a trade in value and the deal wasn't inciting at all. my guaranteed amt from soa was 14,1 and the dealer offered around 15. i'm not trading it in for sure now but still am looking. gosix, did you get a fair price for your 02 trade in?
and did your trade in price affect your otd price?
thanks

I totaled my WRX and the ins company gave me 19.1k for it. I had my second car (2003 legacy L SE) but was too uncomfortable and no oomph. I originally bought it for the wife. I went and got the LGT Ltd and couldn't be happier. My wrx had 320 whp and well the LGT is plenty for me right now. I just can't get over how much better everything was made than the WRX. I am happy now
BTW I got the 500$ Suby Bucks and they sold the LGT Ltd to me for 500 over invoice.

Talk about timing. Just came across this thread...and just traded my 02 WRX for an 05 Legacy GT Ltd. It was either that or go with a TurboXS or Vishnu mod on the WRX. I have been ruminating, and second guessing the decision only because I loved the WRX. But as someone else stated, this GT is a different car. Just as fast, maybe faster than the WRX (Car and Driver had the GT at 5.7 secs 0-60). Much more luxurious inside, better looking outside (IMHO), and a much softer, quieter and more refined ride than the WRX. Also, turbo lag is minimal and almost indistinguishable in the GT with the 5-speed (especially if you are used to driving a WRX) , much less so than what it was in the 02 WRX (not sure about other WRX model years). But, the WRX corners and brakes better and the steering is more precise (again, see Car and Driver testing on the GT...braking and skidpad results were disappointing...personally, I feel more body roll and soft cornering...though some of that are those darn Potenza RE-92s ). Not that the GT is bad, just different. Personally, I was ready to give up the boy-racer car for the luxury of the GT (without sacrificing the speed). And as someone said on another site, the GT is an "adult's WRX".
I still wonder if I should have done mods on my WRX and held off on a GT purchase for a few years. In fact, before I bought my white GT, I even thought about painting my WRX white so it would look more like the GT I was considering buying. But, I was tired of that chintzy WRX interior and the bug-eye look of the 02 . I also tired of the turbo lag and how the car got blown around on the highway (a little-reported fact - yes, if there is a strong wind and you are running on the highway, steering becomes a challenge - it was the worst car I have EVER had as far as that is concerned... and remember I LOVED the car).
I have driven this GT like my WRX and it is fun. Just not quite as much fun. But then I look around me and see the leather etc. and I think maybe, just maybe that I have grown up. I AM an adult. And then I wonder, just how much fun is that?
And yes, I considered the STI. Just couldn't get past the spoiler and interior. After all, I AM grown up.
So, in the end, I said "Give me the leather". Perhaps there may be GT mods to be had. With improved suspension and braking, I might have my boy-racer back...just disguised.

BTW, my WRX was over the 50K limit SOA lists for the guaranteed trade in amount and the dealers are then instructed to deduct .20 for every mile over 50K. The dealer gave me $15, 200 and I bought the GT Ltd for $100 over invoice plus tax and transfer (I negotiated down the transfer fee to $75 and had all other fees , like advertsining eliminated). I'm awaiting receipt from SOA of the $25 visa gift card (for test driving the legacy) and the $500 Subaru bucks (which I plan to use to have a short throw shifer installed).

I currently have both, although I just put my WRX up for sale (see the for sale forum if interested).
I love both cars immensely, but I needed more room than the WRX could provide. The interior of the LGT is so much bigger, and SO NICE. I can't believe how polished Subaru interiors have gotten, even in just a couple years.
The LGT feels faster than the WRX, and from the reports I've seen, runs the 1/4mi faster. The low-end torque is much better. Also the LGT's steering feels quicker, although maybe it's the smaller steering wheel? My LGT isn't broken in yet, so I'm wondering what the full powerband is like. (Does anyone know of any online dyno charts, or even where the powerband is?). The suspension doesn't feel quite up to the par of the WRX, possibly due to the lower wheel travel in the LGT. The WRX just felt so confident in turns, with very nice lift-throttle oversteer. I have yet to really try out my LGT near the limits, so right now the comparo is a bit of speculation.
BUT, I love the LGT. It's a very, very, nice, fast car, and I'm happy I got it.
I'm 6'3'', so the WRX eventually seemed almost claustrophopic for me. With the seat all the way back, nobody could fit behind me and I could easily touch the back of the rear seat.

All the fun
I also have both. And I intend to keep it that way
I have an ’04 WRX wagon. This is primarily my wife’s car during the week, and my road burner on the weekends (I live in the mountains north of Atlanta, and there are lots of tarmac and gravel roads around here with no traffic and fun to drive).
I have (at least for a few more weeks) a leased Audi A6 2.7T sport that I’ve flogged into the ground as my commuter car (100 miles a day). It’s too heavy, but very comfy and quiet. The sport package with springs and wide rubber makes for some amount of fun. But nothing like a good Subie.
I just got an ’05 Legacy GT limited wagon two weeks ago, and man, I love that car.
It’s got great performance, really good handling (considering the crappy OEM tires) and the interior is very nice, even when compared to the very high standards of the Audi cabin.
That huge sunroof is very nice. The wife was so jealous of it, I had to buy her a sunroof retrofit for her WRX on the day I bought my GT just to keep her happy.
The GT is sooo much quieter than the WRX, and the general feel is a little better. I’m still not sure about which one will be quicker in tight turns, but my calibrated butt meter tells me the WRX with good rubber will be a little better then the GT. However, for all-around satisfaction, I’m feeling the GT delivers a great package.
One feature I really like so far is the 5EAT / sportshift mode in automatic (not paddle shifted) mode, it delivers acceleration runs that are just magical. Blips of the throttle at shift points and all. This is better than the tiptronic in the Audi IMHO.
Does anyone else feel the sportshift (in auto mode) is the secret love child of Peter Solberg and some computer?

Car Info: 2002 WRX (Trading For STi)
I just traded my 2002 WRX for a 2005 2.5GT. I went in looking for a 2005 WRX. Now Im picking up my LGT thursday night and I cant wait. It was the test drive that did it for me. Just SOOOOO much more HP and Torque then my WRX. I feel in love.
