I am considering purchasing a mid 90's legacy wagon, or outback wagon, and would like some reccommendations. Are there specific model years to avoid? Are there specific problems areas to look for? Is there certain options I should look for/avoid. Is there any advantages to transmission type, auto/standard?
Any advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,

watch out for 2.5l engine in the gt's because they are known for blowing head gaskets. i have a 2.2l ls but mine's a sedan. good luck.

 

Just make sure you find one with nice service records. I hear the 2.2 are bullet proof but I have a 96 2.5 with 150k and have had no probs. I am also not easy on the car, I autoX and give it WOT runs often (I live out in the country).
As for 5 speed or auto its a personal choice which ever you like best. Consensus is the 4eat tranny is bullet proof too. Mine is auto too.
