'04 Twin Turbo Legacy?
Hey all,
This is my first post, but I have been spying for a few months now at this discussion board. So great to read quality information about my favorite Subarus, i.e., the Legacy line.
We are ready to purchase another Subaru Legacy Wagon, and the current U.S. lineup, lacking performance, has made my decision difficult. Ideally, I would love to have a turbo GT wagon, but since that is not an option, I have been teetering on buying the turbo Baja. Just not sure yet as, ahem, the wife must agree to what car she will be driving and the Baja is just too damn like an Outback.
Anyway, I saw this today on the consumer reports site:
Sources expect a redesigned Legacy/Outback for 2005, but also a high-performance twin-turbo edition for '04 to close out the current generation. Hot Legacys have been around for years, just not in the U.S. Assuming the rumor mill is right, we'd expect a sedan, but maybe a wagon too, with the Impreza WRX powertrain; it would bolt easily into the larger Legacy, as the two lines already share this basic engine block. The Legacy would likely be tuned for more low-end torque and something like 240-250 hp. Look for the usual sporty-car body add-ons and cabin appointments, plus firmer suspension, larger wheels and tires, and perhaps bigger brakes.
How accurate is this rumor? If it is correct, I would consider that as an option as opposed to waiting for (and spending more) for the '05 new gen Legacy. I don't know if any of you guru's have read or heard anything, but I must say it sounds too good to be true.

SOA told me personally at the East Coast Shootout that the Legacy turbo was coming late spring early summer '04. They would not comment on the power train however but rumor is a tuned down version of the 2.5t sti motor (single turbo). There are also rumors of a sti legacy coming state side soon with a TT setup and somewhere around 350 bhp.

There's truth...
There will be a brand new Legacy in 2004 (05) that should be released here in the states sometime after August. It's basically the existing Legacy B4 in Europe and Asia. It will be a turbo, but I don't know if the twin turbo will be the first to hit the states. If I were you I'd definatly hold off and wait for the redesigned Legacy. I'm pretty sure that it might have a Subaru Boxer 6 engine also! They will most likely offer it with a 2.5L & 3.0L H6.
