Mitsubishi voiding warranties on AutoXed EVOs
In stark contrast to Subaru's policy of including 1 year's free SCCA membership with their WRXs (not sure if they still do or not), check out this article from Autoextremist.com:
It seems that Mitsubishi's aggressive marketing of its "rally-inspired" Lancer EVO high-performance street car is designed to move the iron from their showrooms only - and is not meant to be perceived as tacit approval by Mitsubishi for customers to actually take them up on it. Internet chat rooms are buzzing with stories of Mitsubishi voiding motor and drivetrain warranties (including transmissions) on Lancer EVOs that have been found to have competed in any sort of high-performance SCCA-type autocross sanctioned event or any other timed event, for that matter. Mitsubishi has allegedly set up an automatic web search that looks for registration and results information for any Mitsubishi, and then captures the race results information, matches it to vehicle purchase and service records, and then places the car on "warranty restriction". If the Lancer EVO, according to Mitsubishi, is said to embody everything a performance enthusiast looks for in a car, then Mitsubishi should clarify their position and make it clear to everyone who buys one that they don't really mean it - at least when it comes to backing their high-performance cars with a high-performance warranty

Ok people lets just say I just bought a Mitsubishi EVO and treated it like **** and drove it like a madman on the legal streets of the U.S.A. The Car company expects that kind of wear and tear therefore engineer the car to handle that. But everybody knows racing destorys brakes, trannys and tires. Why should Mitsubishi pay for your racing?? I hope you understand why the tuning market is so big for these cars. If you buy a HIGH PERFORMANCE car and dont know how to drive it or dogg the car like an idiot then you deserve everything you dont get. I'm pretty sure they have a disclaimer in their warranty agreement.

this is funny cause ive seen this post on alot of site and most say both subi and mitsu void warrenties if they find out you auto cross it. just my opion but if you race it you should have money to fix it. most people do damage to their car and its their fault but they want the company to pay and most depends on your dealer for the normal warrenty work.
when i had my wrx i got a cel and took it to the dealer subi dealer they wouldnt even look at it and all it had on it was strut tower bars and a cat back it was apple subaru in york pa. it took it to another dealer in hanover and he scanned and found i had a bad cat with only 2100 miles on the car and was going to replace it. same ive heard of mitsu dealers some just fix it other dont.

I agree that if you track the car that you, the end buyer, are responsible for any post damage resulting from said "Autocrossing". However this is, in my oppinion, skirting the line of false advertising;...there are certain obvious deception issues in thier, and many car manufacturers, marketing campaigns . Thats what this is about; not so much whether they'll cover warrenty issues; thats just the result. I think car companies that practice these questionable advirtising methods should be made to cover issues based on the agreesive spirit of there marketing campaign towards a certain product line.

dirty mitsu tactic,
to me if your an enthuisiest ( sp ), and your car's company is promoting a vehicle which is a AWD turbocharged vehicle etc. etc., its an oxymoron for them to hunt u down and void your warranty if you purchased it and drive it hard.
hopefully subaru doesn't search for the ppl who do the same.

So these people who auto-x are destroying their cars shifting from 1st to 2nd and occasionally 3rd, and not even getting the brakes up to temperature?
I’m not sure where you auto-x but the people in my region who drive subarus or other similar cars never seem to have problems at least nothing that would mount to a warranty claim.
You do go through tires fast but that’s not a warranty issue.

Mitsubishi will never tell you not to race it or they will void your warrenty. Would you buy a high performance car if the manufacture isnt confident that their "performance" car will hold up to some abuse? I wouldnt

Mitsubishi Motors and our dealers strive to be reasonable in evaluating each customer' s vehicle that is brought into a dealership for a possible warrantable condition in order to provide excellent customer service. We give the benefit of the doubt to everyone and appreciate their respect for the terms and conditions of our warranty. Mitsubishi does not have any automated web search system looking for Lancer Evolutions involved in race events. This is absolutely false.
Mitsubishi clearly states in its Owner's Warranty and Maintenance booklet that problems or failures related to racing, alteration and/or vehicle modifications are not covered conditions. This policy is standard throughout the automotive industry, and is even less restrictive than some manufacturer warranties, such as BMW and Subaru, that prohibit operating a vehicle in any type of competitive event.
If a Lancer Evolution is brought to Mitsubishi Motors dealer for a diagnosis as to a possible warrantable condition and the dealer determines that modifications were made that may have caused the problem, or could be instrumental in causing future problems, the repair will not be covered. The dealer and if necessary, MMNA staff, investigate each case, always giving the owner the benefit of the doubt. If the dealer does indeed find that serious vehicle modifications have been made that relate to a vehicle problem and/or damages, then it is possible that a restriction will be placed on that vehicle's warranty coverage as it relates to the specific modification, damaged component(s) and impacted vehicle systems. The entire vehicle warranty is not voided.
