Weight Reduction
Have any of you guys put your Subie on a diet? I want to do a weight reduction on my 00 2.5RS and looking forward in taking out about 200 pounds. What can i do to achieve my goal? I don't want to do anything to the interior or the A/C. I know the A/C weighs alot but i want to keep it. So what can i take out that is not needed to reach my 200 pound goal?

hummmm....first thing that comes to mind is take out the AC and rear seats, but you dont wanna do that...so take out the spare tire. ? hahahaha. but you probably dont wanna do that
either. hummmm...take off your emblems?
if you're serious about putting your ride on a diet, you will
loose some comfort.

The back seat dosen't weigh enough to justify removal, and you will kick yourself if you take out the A/C, but the power steering is removable, and will give you horsepower in the process, but it is a pain, I have never done it on a Subaru although I'm sure someone has and can tell you how. 200 lbs is definatly going to cost you daily driven comfort. Good Luck

Rims and tires are good start. Get 16 or 15 inch light weight rims.
Then CarbonFiber hood, trunk and maybe doors too.
Take out spare tires and carry fix-a-flat.
All the above is not touching interior at all.
Isn't it 200lb diet yet?

lose the spare tire & jack
lose all material in trunk... wood, carpet, tar
lose all interior foot mats (if you can bear it)
throw out all the junk in the glove-box
carbon or aluminum hood/trunk
smaller wheels, check different brand tire weights
light weight flywheel
light weight pully kit (more power too)
lose any aero kits or spoilers
lose cruise control
lose any strut/brace bars
lose foglights, just put covers (not much here)
light weight inner bumper beams, though safety an issue
ummm....ok ran out of ideas

Remove all sound-deadening material from underneath carpeting and on firewall (alla Type-R Integra). Scrape all 'tar' from floor boards. These two combined should save you roughly 50-60 lbs. You may also consider removing the heavy-*** brace under the steering column (I haven't quite figured out what it's for, but I do know it's heavy!)

I would go with lightweight bumper beams front and rear. Aluminum hood and trunk lid, painting only the outer layer. Change the headlamp housings to plastic instead of glass. Get rid of fogs. and have covers. Take out the resinator. Lightened flywheel and pulley kit. Lighter wheels and tires. Cruise Control is gone. Put in lightweight sport seats. Put in a single din CD player. Remove Armrest extension if you have one. Remove the Bin on top and put the gauge housing and CF face plate to make it solid.(yes the housing is lighter than the having the box there) Take out the factory sub if you have one.

if you don't want to do too much interior, you can take out the heavy metal plate in the glove box (unscrew it and open it up and you'll see it, then you'll notice it opens smoother). also taking out all the stuff in the glovebox and trunk might help. and as people said.. take out your spare tire & jack, change to ALUMINUM hood and trunk, lightweight front and rear bumper beams, aluminum control arms, lightweight rims, I heard there was a heavy metal block behind the jacking plate under the car near the engine, lightweight wilwood brakes, headlights, foglights, take off wing, get wrc side mirrors, lightweight pully kit, flywheel (if MT).
if you were really going all out weight reduction then take out AC, powersteering, strip interior, take out all seats except drivers seat, take out stereo and all speakers, plus all the above

aluminum control arms might help you loose a couple of lbs, and help with the handling in the process.
it's not legal, but binning smog equipment would help trim your RS down. charcoal canisters, evaporation systems, and all the related hoses might loose you some weight. same deal with the exhaust system and it's cats.
two piece brake rotors with aluminum hats instead of the solid cast iron rotors will reduce weight and help with braking.
a lightweight/smaller battery is completely legal and should shed a few pounds. if you can find an optima, that's even better.
if you've got a subwoofer, pull it out of the car.
you might look into a smaller capacity racing fuel cell to replace your stock gas tank if you don't mind filling up a little more often going from a 14 gallon tank to a 10 gallon fuel cell would save you a hell of a lot of weight.
