Trailer Hitch
Hey guys, I'm looking into getting one of these trailer hitches for various reasons and I was wondering if anyone else had a bit of experience with them? Apparently there's a bit of metal to cut in order to get it to fit right, and would it still be safe to lower the car with the hitch installed?

Take a look at Curt hitches: Trailer Hitches, Heavy Duty Hitch, & Towing Accessories Made in America by CURT Manufacturing.
I have their hitch and plug-and-play wiring adapter for the GR widebody / quad exhaust hatch (i.e. 2008-2012 STI hatch or 2011-2012 WRX hatch). The price was right, the hitch fits great, and the plug-and-play wiring harness/adapter made wiring super easy. Some black plastic at the bottom of the rear diffuser needed trimming, as it would for any hitch to be at a reasonable height on the GR.
For my car these were the parts:
Hitch: Amazon.com: Curt 11120 Class 1 Receiver Hitch: Automotive
Wiring adapter: Amazon.com: Curt Manufacturing 56111 T-Connector: Automotive
(Hitches aren't light, so free Amazon shipping saves a decent buck.)
For your 2004 STi you would get this hitch: Amazon.com: Curt Manufacturing 11318 Class I Receiver: Automotive
Unfortunately it looks like Curt doesn't make a plug-and-play wiring adapter for the GD. So you'd have to use their generic one: Amazon.com: 3 to 2 Wire Power Converter Module (circuit protected): Automotive
Maybe someone else makes a plug-and-play wiring harness for MY 2004.

I have a 2005 and i got the hitch from the dealer with a kit. the kit came with one if the pigtails for the trailer, but there was no hook up for it. the dealer said on the wrx model of my year it didnt come with the plug and to just go out to the local parts shop and pick up a standard one and hook it to the tail lamps. I did and haven't had a problem with it yet

I have never liked the look of the hitch hanging down in the back. I think I may make one that the receiver goes in behind the license plate. If I get fed up with doing it these guys said they can do it for $400 or so. Looks like they do some trick work.
