testing waters - anyone interested in a <10lb cf WRX/STi hood?
I'm in the works with several companies right now trying to work out some pricing as well as the design of a high quality carbon fiber hood for the 2004+ STi/WRX.
The problem with other cf hoods right now is that they're expensive for what you're getting. for example, VIS hoods (I've owned 3+ of these for various cars) are single layer cf overlay, quite heavy (15+ lbs) and flimsy (all my hoods have been known to flap at speed... w/o any hood scoops). not to mention that VIS sells them for $600 i believe?
anyways, what I'm looking to bring into exhistance is a symmetrically manufactured hood (which will resist warping) that is superior in quality to other aftermarket cf hoods, and stiffer than the oe aluminum hood.
this will be done with a stiff and lightweight inner core wrapped symmetrically in cf, so there will be cf on BOTH SIDES of the hood. There will also be provisions for the stock latch and hinges. The projected weight of the hood will be sub 10lbs, and you will be using your OE hoodscoop. This is much like the manufacturing process used by the aerospace industry when making their high-speed ultralight wings.
The cost of such a hood is projected to be around 700-800 shipped to your door.
The hood will also be an oe replica for now, until some profit is made to develop a vented version or whatnot.
provided that this is a high quality perfect ffit hood, how many of you would seriously be interested in buying one?? I'm not selling them yet, just need to know who would be interested so I can see if it's worth the investment or not. In order to complete a task like this for the price I'm estimating, I'll need to sell at least 20 hoods before I can make any profit for further projects. =)

working model? of course!
i mean, assuming that it's perfect, who would be interested? I can't really show a sample until I actually invest and have a mold and prototype made.
I'm just trying to figure out how much of a interest there is in a product like this and what the estimated sales forecast would be.
so assuming it's strong, light, functional, and looks/fits perfect... who would be interested in purchasing??
