Sylvania SilverStar experiences?

I have the PIAA ion crystals in my fogs too, and just for clarification, they are more yellow than those pictures show. They add a lot for seeing what's right in front of your car.

i bought the Xtravision bulbs at Autozone for $14.00 each
Now thats a bargin! but if you want to spend lots of cash on so called "white" bulbs go ahead.
I did a lot of research on bulbs, lumens, the "K" in 4000K, and why those white lights are not good for your night vision before i choose the Xtravision.

What did you find in your research? Why would the Xtravisions be better than the silverstars (besides price).
I really want to find the best bulb for safe driving for my car.

i found a thread, i think on wrxfanatics.com, that had an e-mail from slyvania talking about the lumens of the xtravision and the silverstar. The xtravision were 100-200 lumens brighter.

I approve of the Silver Stars. I have had them in my car for over 5 months and still love the bright white look, much brighter too. The $10 rebate was cool too. Only $40 bucks.

silverstars
I'm not too happy with the silverstars. I ran the
H4's from April to June and they blew (nighttime only). Going at 23 bucks a bulb at autozone, that could get expensive quickly. The color of the light was good, but there is better stuff out there. I'm giving MTEC racing's bulbs a try and I like them a lot. Color temp is 4300 K and has a faint blue tint (not ricer blue) and provides a much more spirited driving experience.

From what I've read elsewhere, the Silverstars sold in the US are an attempt at getting whiter hue from a conventional halogen bulb. This is done in the same way as the ricer "blue" bulbs, by using a blue coating, just less of it. Your eye might like the tint better, with signs showing up better. But they are putting out less light, as halogens are mostly yellow. The ricer blues can put out as llittle as only 20% as an untinted bulb. My son spent IIRC $20 on a pair of blue H4's, and they were noticably dim. AND the reflector onthe end of the bulb started delaminating after only a month. Don't know the brand, no manufacturer name printed on the bulb sitting in my drawer.
Replaced them with Osram "+50" from Dan Stern lighting. Doped with IIRC xenon, they allow running at higher temperatures, for slightly more llight, and slightly whiter. Work very well in our Tacooma as well. Standard 60/55 w.
Lots of good info on Stern's site, BTW: http://lighting.mbz.org/home.html .
No affiliation, etc. Another good "No BS" vendor is rallylights.com .
