i bought a 02 silver sedan with the spoiler
I like the looks of the stock spoiler. It is suddle but looks nice. Ive seen naked deck lids and i dont like how the car looks with out a spoiler as much. Your right most spoilers are for looks only on front wheel drive cars/most imports the downforce doesnt help because pushing on no driving tire. However i believe the spoiler may help a little in our cars case because it is awd and some of thed ownforce may help with traction on the rear tires. Can anyone verify if this is the case? So yes i do like the stock spoiler.

the car looks more aggressive and mean with the wing
When i bought my rex ig ot the 4eat and it was hard to find one and i finally found one in silver and the dealer asked me about options. At first i said i didnt need a spoiler, and i slept on it and the next morning i called the dealer back and told them i want ed a spoiler so they found another car witha spoiler and gave me the new vin# for my insurance company. I saw a blue wrx without the spoiler and it looks so different without it, i dont care for it at all. It looks alot less sporty. The only reason to get without is if u wanted an aftermarket wing.

I've personaly never been a fan of any spoiler, IMO the wrx looks better without it in certain colors. I think the blue looks silly without it but my black wrx looks very astute and proper without one...
I'm doing mine up sleeper anyway, all the money is going under the hood and I got rid of the WRX badge.... thinking about a front mount intercolor so I can replace the hood with onewithout a scoop.... stealth cruser.... rice buster.... yeah...

I think I'm with you twisted, I also want my car to be a sleeper, and after it's good and broken in, I cant wait to make it go really fast... Besides I can get such a kick-butt price on the car without it, that I can't justify the cost. I'll post a pic when I bring my new toy home...

I don't think the factory spoiler adds nor detracts from the looks of the car. I don't want it on my car, but it's okay if someone else likes it - it's their car, after all. I much prefer the Prodrive-style WRC wing. I don't like the boy racer add-on JDM S202 carbon fiber wing although I'm sure it adds real downforce.
IMO, when I see a WRX without a spoiler I get the impression that "this owner is all business and not about flash".

yes to spoiler
yea get a stock spoiler, especially if you have a silver...i have a silver wrx too and luv it with the stock spoiler....IMHO i think that ANY aftermarket spoiler looks ridiculous and ruins the look of the car.....

rear wings are for looks, unless you're really serious about going fast......for the wing to apply any type of force to the rear wheels you gotta be moving at a pretty good clip.......otherwise there isn't enough force to do anything!!!
it's kinda like all the hype about ram air......most people don't know how ramair works......you gotta be screaming to get that extra HP they all talk about. as time goes on those speeds needed are dropping due to better technology......but most ram-air systems need at least 120 mph to start working!!!!
when ducati first put there ram air on the 916, you needed something like 135mpg to get the extra 15 HP they claimed it would make. and since i never rode the duck around at 135......i never felt that extra 15 ponies!!!!!
some wings look good, some don't, but like the other guys said it's all preference........different strokes for different folks!!!! later, riggs
