Static Shock Exiting '03 WRX

I have an '03 wrx with the stock cloth seats in it and everytime I get out of it and then touch something metal I get a shock. EVERYTIME!! Does this happen to anyone else or is it just my "electric personality"?

yes, yes, and yes....

You can use static guard spray all over the seat or before you put your foot on the ground touch the door (leave it there) then put your foot on the ground.

have fun

this used to happen to me when i wore shoes with leather soles. but it hasn't happened lately. i also heard it happens around colder weather. anyway, you need to "ground" yourself before you get out. before you set foot on the ground outside, grab something metal on your car. I used to grab on to the roof as i stepped out. keep holding on to it until you have both feet on the ground outside. this takes some getting used to, but there's nothing like shock treatment to remind you!

Yeah, I try to remember to do that, touch something metal before I get out of the car to ground myself. It's just kinda amazing how much of a shock you get. I don't even generate that much when I drag my feet against the carpet and touch something. It's weird. It's funny though to watch people get out of my car and get shocked. Usually if I have a packed car I'll get 3 out of 4 people that get shocked. Always funny stuff.

I will get that shock during the days when ambient relative humidity is low to very low but not when it's foggy or raining outside. Like other members have written, the shock is generated from the rubbing action against interior materials in the vehicle.
