Sidemarkers (revisited)

I know I've seen a post about this somewhere before but I can't seem to find it now. Could anyone tell me how to get the sidemarkers off for my 2002 WRX? I recently got clear sidemarkers and the person who put them on didn't really put them on securely. It's on tight and all but it looks like water will leak in.

Are you referring to the diamond shaped corner markers? If so, just get a rubber or latex glove (you can also use a patch of rubbery material) and push up on the lens. It should move up and then you can move the bottom of the lens out. To remove the light housing, just twist the housing and there is a point where you can pull the light bulb housing out of the lens (I marked where it lines up before I put it back together so I would remember which way to twist).

I had a similar issue with my clear lenses. What I did was to use clear nail polish to seal the seam where the clear plastic meets the plastic backing. No leak now.

I don't mind if it leaks but I'm afraid that water will screw up the entire wiring system....

The issue that I recall is that the owner's manual suggests using a screwdriver to pry them out. That works fine but you risk gouging your paint (several people have posted that they've done that). With the method I described, you don't risk that.

Yea I used a screwdriver and pryed. If you're careful, there's nothing to worry about.

its reeaelly easy to take off the sidemarkers.. just grab with your fingers at the bottom and lift up and out, dont worry about breaking anything (the more careful you are the harder it is to get them off), its really just a retention clip and a plastic hook on the bottom.

ah didn't even read your post before I posted my reply.. btw: there are only one set of sidemarkers I know of that actually fit nice and tight. they are the prodrive ones, they come with an amber bulb because they screwed up and made the light socket not fit the stock bulb.. dont use that light tho because it gets too hot and will melt a hole in the side marker! you have to get a led bulb for it.. im not sure what size bulb fits, I'm trying to find that out now.
