Roof Rack Delete - Filling the holes

I'm getting ready to get everything I need to take the racks off my wagon, but I had one question. To fill the holes from the racks, do I need both the expansion nuts AND the Saab brackets (From This Thread), or one or the other? Is there a preference on which method I use? What do the brackets do that the plugs don't?

Get a few of the clips, I think you'll be short 2-4 of them. To hell with the plugs. Use some silicone, make a button on each side of the hole. It won't leak. Those brackets don't do anything.

Thumbs up

Use the PLUGS and SILICONE. The last thing you want is a leak f'n up your headliner! The mod is a big pain in the *ss, but sooo worth it!

People were removing their roof racks long before Saabaru's hit the market:

There is a really good write-up on www.scoobymods.com. I used the expansion plugs on my wagon and some vaseline with some needle-nose pliers to pull them through and it worked great!!. You can also use the Saabaru brackets.

I forget the size, but get some plastic snap in covers from home depot. Use those and silicone on both the inside and outside and you'll be fine.
