My car vs. Tree Sap

I left my car parked under some trees outside my parents house for a day, while I borrowed their truck to help some friends move. Though I have parked multiple vehicles there countless times before, when I picked up my car this morning, I found it looking like it had been through a sap rainstorm. Obviously I am less than pleased with this turn of events and getting ready to wash it. Do I need to take any special precautions cleaning the sap and/or are there any methods for best removing it?

Thanks,
Matt

Use some bug tar remover but wash your car right afterwards.

Mayonaise gets sap off of cars... just put a little bit on a cotton ball then rub it on and wipe it off with a cotton cloth. It worked for me.

i just washed it with water and nothing else, it's just sap, it should dissolve/dislodge pretty easily if you already had a coat of wax on the car.

+1. Except I use rubbing alcohol, but they have the same base ingredient. Works like a charm, practically dissolves the sap on spot. You should polish or wax the spot right after.

When cars would come to get a detail we would use Goof Off and rub it lightly until the sap was gone. You have to wax the spot right after though and be very careful when your rubbing the sap off because you can hurt your paint.

nail polish remover is Acetone and rubbing alcohol is isopropyl alcohol.

nail polish remover is basically paint remover...I wouldn't use that on my car...you might end up with a dull spot.

Anything I have had that wouldn't come off with a car wash I just put a wet microfiber on top of for like 30 min and come back, the whole thing has been kinda soaked through and it comes off in a single gentle wipe. But then again I haven't had my car covered in anything :/.
