MOD: DIY Front License Plate Delete
I've seen these around and wanted one, but didn't want to spend $30-$40 for a piece of aluminum with a logo etched on it. I just wanted something to cover up the holes, and look nice. So I thought I'd do it myself and post it up since I haven't seen anyone else try this yet.
BTW, the one I made here is for an 04/05 body style. I know the 06+ are different. Don't know about the '03 and before, though.
It's real easy. Hardest part is making the template.
So you can use mine. (Below)
I used some real thin, 0.6mm aluminum sheet I had left over, and traced out my paper template over it. Then I carefully cut it out with tin snips, drilled the mounting holes, gave it a light sanding with 600grit sandpaper (what I had laying around) and mounted it where existing license plate holes were.
That's about it. Actually came out better than I expected. A real nice and easy mod that saved me a few bucks I'd rather spend on some steering rack bushings, camber bolts, subframe lock bolts, etc; i.e. things I can't make myself.
Later on, I might paint it flat black or WRB, then you'd never know it was el cheapo mod. Also, if I had taken more time to give it a nicer finish, it would look much better. And as far as the screws, I'll be replacing those with some allen head bolts for a cleaner look.
So here's some pics, and the template I used. Enjoy!
