Clifford alarm systems are good. But of course, you want to find a reputable shop to install it. Things can go wrong with less experienced shops so you want to make sure the shop guarantees their work. I also used Viper on my old car. Not bad. The alarm systems usually comes with either a starter kill or a fuel cut. The shop I went to for my old car hooked it up with the one that didn't come with the alarm and the one that did.

clifford/viper/python are all the same so it doesnt matter which you go with, they'll all have equivalent models available. just have someone that knows what they're doing to install, especially when it comes to remotestart and such.

but for starters, assuming you have power door locks, looks like you're looking for a basic alarm:
keyless entry
alarm (doorpin sensors, shock sensor, kill switch)
other features you can get as you get higher models or add-ons will be
2-way paging (pages your remote when alarm is set off, limited range)
remote start
upgraded transponder(remote) with picture of a car and it tells you why the alarm is being set off, etc.
back up battery
tilt sensor
motion/proximity sensor
window mod
i'm estimating it'll cost you $200-250 @ bestbuy or something like that with install for basic alarm (keyless entry, alarm). perhaps it may be lower with custom shops.

Well if you make a trip out to Modesto i can get you hooked up at Car Audio Depot and i can get you something like a Black Widow or up to a DEI alarm DEI is the company that makes all the Clifford Viper and Python alarms Python is the least expensive of those 3 and Clifford is the most but like Jin said they are all the same components all you pay for is a name, and do you want a pager alarm or just a noise making alarm? a Paging alarm has a constant link to your car at all times so if someone is breaking into your car and you are within a mile of it your pager will beep also so you know that your car is being messed with...

for the electrical systems to shut off or fuel pump etc, any experienced 12volt guy can wire that up with the alarm or hidden switch somewhere. the alarm only interrupts the starter wire, this can be bypassed easily for, say, pro car thief.
tilt sensor senses the car being lifted such as tow or something.
if you want two-way page remote with the car display, it'll probably run you close to 300-350, however i dont if they make em anymore without remote start. which then i'd estimate to be 350+ retail.
i dont know what car you have but with sti and on some wrx, there is a neutral position wire which makes having remote start on manual 100% safe.
