Help a newbie... JDM HID vs non-HID
Hi everyone... Im new here and I plan on asking a ton of questions for a while, because I know next to nothing about WRX's (and cars in general for that matter), except that I like them. Ive been reading around here a bit and it seems like everyone's favorite headlight is from JDM. Ive found parts places selling HID for $1835:
and selling non-HID for $725:
1. What is HID?
2. Are there any other lights from JDM that people really like?
3. Are there any other lights from other manufacturers that people really like?
Thats all for now... thanks for your help.

1) HID = High intensity Discharge. It's a different kind of bulb that is whiter, and brighter. You usually see it on MB's Acura's and the newer maximas. It gives off a bluish/purple tint.
2) I think those are the only JDM ones
3) The UK300 and Morette headlights are also popular.

Thanks chris. I really like that bluish/purple tint. It looks like the WRC in the picture at the top of this thread has Morette's.
So who makes the "JDM" lights above?
Does that company (or Morette) make any taillights for the WRX?
Can anyone direct me to some cool taillights? Ive had a tough time finding any.
PS. One more quick thing... What wing is on the WRC Subie above? Thanks.

JDM means Japanese Domastic Market which means it comes from the factory in Japan with those lights.
With that being said, the lights you posted above are made by Subaru.
What WRC are you referring to, do you mean WRX? Which one has a wing? Am I missing a pic or something?
For tail lights check out eBay, they have a ton of cheap "altezza" lights.(I believe APC is the company, they make a ton of cheap crap for civics and such)
I don't know why you would want to change the tail lights but it's your car.
Your best bet on the JDM STI lights is a group buy or you can find a set of right hand drive ones alot cheaper but you have to deal with them not being aimed properly for a left hand drive car.
Alot of people go this route but it's totally up to you how important the aiming is.
You can also get the non HID and add a HID kit and it usually ends up costing about half the price of JDM HID lights.
Do a search for LHD and RHD lights and you should come up with some info about the differences. good luck-James

thanks junior, that was really helpful.
1. So they are STI lights by Subaru, but theyre for a right hand drive car. Correct?
I probably wont change the taillights. I was just wondering what was out there.
2. I was wondering what headlights and spoiler this car has:

Oh, I believe that's the Version 7 sti spoiler, could be wrong on which version but it is the one that comes on the STI sorry I didn't know what pic you were talking about. The lights can be ahd in LHD or RHD it just depends on how much you want to spend. CC-B has a group buy going right now for the LHD ones(also known as EDM) The headlights on the WRC car are very similar to the Prodrive headlights, the Orciari headlights, or the UK300. I don't believe anyone makes those exact headlights for our cars, they have a vent in the top portion instead of a turn signal. -James

2. It is very rare. Subaru makes similar rear wing for WRX STi version prodrive style, but the real WRC wing is extended to the rear.
As for the lights, there are similar replicas but it doesn't look exactly like the real one because the real one has no turn signal in the headlights. Also the real one is carbon fiber. I prefer JDM projector lights rather.
WRC wing
WRX STi prodrive style wing

Thanks again James and Go, youve cleared a lot of stuff up.
I found this links site: http://www.mudd90.freeserve.co.uk/links.htm
So I should be able to start looking for pretty much anything from now on.
No more questions for now.

Best place to buy LHD JDM headlights?
Cycloexane (et al.):
you mention finding the lights available for $725. Were those LHD? Could you post info on the supplier? I'd like to get these and the $725 seems like a good price from what I've seen. Also they seem to be hard to get as the group buy I was dealing with flaked out on me (over the all too patient course of 6+ months!).
Thanks!
