There is a yellow/red wire that comes out from the top part of the underdash fuse box. This wire is accessory power for the lighter and compass/mirror option. You can tap your detector into this circuit, that is where I connected my V1.

That's what I did too. I tapped into the fusebox like the pic below. Only comes on with the ignition.

I don't know about the best way, but it is informative. Seems like a lot of extra work to pull the dash pieces off just to access the wires at the fuse box. The pic I posted above...I never had to pull the dash apart to access the wires and the grounding spot I used was where the hood pull is under the dash.

Don't get me wrong. The ravensblade-impreza how-to is very well done and informative, but I wouldn't say it's necessarilly the best or better than any other method. Just another approach to it as everyone has their preferences.

I dont have a V1 With the hard wire Kit. I want to just rig up some + and - wires to the standard cigarette insert (male) piece and wire those to the ciruit for the autodimmer.

Which part of the Radar Dectector plug is power and whoch part is ground????

Looks like there are 3 connections on this thing. 2 on the sides (very similar looking) and one on the tip. If anyone has any info on this, i would appreciate it.

according to "my" interpretation of this wiring diagram in the STI Service Manual (see this link for diagram http://206.13.93.15/STi_Stuff/STi_Manual refer to -> section 7. Wiring -> 19. Front Accessory Power Supply System.pdf ) the tip is for the power and the sides are for the ground. Please let me know if I am wrong
