I see... well I think I'm going to go for it *gulp*. You mentioned tools, what tools did you use? Like anything funky? Also, so you just started to pull it apart without any guidance from a book or friend or from Fatmat?

For me, removing took about an hour, but I was taking my time and didn't know what I was doing. If its your first time, and ur hurrying, I'd guess it'd take u about 45mins- an hour. If I were to do it again, My guess is I could do it in 35-40 mins, but Id have to hurry. To be honest, the slowest part (for me) was removing the seats. But I'd definetly say allow an hour and a half and u'll be fine.
Cleaning on the other hand took me ~5 hours. And I didn't really get it totally clean, nor did I cover the entire thing (I didn't cover where the hydrolic lines are, I only went up to them, nor did I cover the firewall.) it took me ~10 hours to totally remove everything, including the rear cushion (not backrest), clean it, and install Raam mat on the floor parts of the front half of the car (everywhere covered by the carpet, so from partway under the rear seat to the firewall.
As a note, I actually enjoyed doing it, cleaning isn't fun, but everything else was. Just my opinion tho.
Hope that helps some. (hope u didn't mind my answering instead of Fosters )

No problems here
It takes about a 3-4 hours to remove enough components to get to the carpet in order to remove it. Thats moving pretty quickly. For your first time I would not put any time restraints on the job. Take your time and remember or insitute a system removing everything that makes it easy for you to reassemble everything. The most difficult aspect is remebering how to put everything back together.
I'd plan to spend a weekend on it if I were you.
Hope that helps.

Maybe its just that I have a 99 OBS, I thought they were all the same as far as removing the interior goes. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding you Fosters? It took 3-4 hours to remove the stuff? thats before starting cleaning and the subsequent install of the sound deadener? Maybe I'm just confused...
Good Luck

I figure 3-4 hours working very carefully to remove everything to the point were you could then remove the carpet. And I'm sure the OBS is basically the same as any other impreza. Although I'm not sure whats under the seats in the OBS but in the wrx there are support bars and such.

spare fatmat
I almost finshed sound proofing my 2002 OB Sport today. I still have one rear door to do. I have about 40% of my fatmat pack left. Where did you put is all?
The only area I didn't do was the rear wheel arches becuase I couldn't get the vertical part of the rear seat off.
Did you get the clips for the center console to work properly? My keep slipping off.
I have 1 "spare" plastic pin, but everything seems pretty solid.
I really appreciate your inital post. It got me on to fatmat.

You don't really need to use a whole block of it on a (i.e.) door panel. You can use strips of the self adhisive on the doors and it will do about 90% of the job as blanketing the whole door. Also anywhere there is a bend in the metal body doesn't need to be covered as it won't make noise like the big flat metal panels do. For under the carpet and in the headliner small strips on the flat metal areas and then something like heat shield will work which is more or less ground up carpet fibers. Glue the carpet fiber material to the roof and floor with 3m 77 or 90 adhesive spray glue. Don't use carpet stuff in the doors obviously, too wet. Using that technique you'll cut down on weight (not that it's a lot) retain and/or reduce heat most importantly cut down on cost. My pops has over 30 years of auto insulation experience and know's what's up. I'm not going to plug his business but email if you needs some ideas or help.
