42"

That was as long as my Thule trays could be with the front crossbar all the way forward to stop the nicks on the spoilers.

You would think that after nicking the spoiler with skiis that I would realize the same thing could happen in the summer.... but no.. so two sets of nicks.

Funny thing,

I showed the Yakima regional rep how to make his racks work on a wagon. With lowrider towers, 48" crossbars, you can just fit a fork mounted bike tray on the outside of the tower. There is just enuff bar to mount the trays up and the hatch/spoiler will just clear at the back.
As far as skis go, I guess you gotta mount the tips facing forward. I would assume you had done that so you might have to cover the ends with some protection.

I have a this very setup for sale for sale currently without bike trays or locks. If you know anyone who needs racks for any smaller size vehicle with factory racks. It will include Lowrider towers, 48" crossbars, and a noise reduction spoiler. Asking $100

If..

If I'd have used crossbars other than the factory, that would have made perfect sense - mount the bike racks so not to bother the spoiler. Ive seen a Jetta here at work with 48's or 52's on it and a short lady getting something out of the box on top.... it looks funny with the box almost off the line of the car, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do..

Regarding the skis... I say to myself - why do I have to go into the back after I put skis on? Never say that with a teenage daughter going in the car.....

Skis and boards go IN the wagon. So they don't get all funked from road grit. Putting them on top without any cover or box or anything completely destroys any base structure you have going.
Bikes and boxes are a pain with that spoiler thing.
